Team M4 Monster Energy Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich has withdrawn from Saturday’s AMA Pro National Guard Superbike race at Barber Motorsports Park due to injuries he sustained in two 125-mph crashes in recent weeks. “I came here thinking I could ride,” Ulrich said after Saturday’s final qualifying session, “but as it turns out the demands of this racetrack combined with my injuries are preventing me from riding at the high level I’m used to. I think it’s better to rest today and try to ride again tomorrow than take a risk and try to ride a 21-lap race that my body can’t really take right now.” Ulrich suffered severe bruising and a tweaked left ankle when he crashed at 125 mph while racing for fifth in the AMA Pro Superbike race September 4 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. He suffered soft tissue damage to his right ankle and a deep bone bruise on the left side of his pelvis when he crashed at 125 mph due to fluid on the track September 17 at Willow Springs International Raceway. Ulrich is currently eighth in the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Championship point standings with 14 top-10 finishes on the season.
