Huntley Nash earned a provisional front row starting spot at Barber Motorsports Park, with Tommy Puerta sixth fastest and Top Gun Sam Nash earning thirteenth. This weekend’s races will determine the AMA National SuperSport champion. Both events will be scored motocross style to determine a single winner. Huntley, who was third in the morning session, set a time of 1:31.248 in qualifying which was good for fourth place. With the 2010 season being a breakthrough campaign for the fast teen racer with two wins and a plethora of podiums, his sights are on wining the National title this weekend. “The session went pretty well and I was able to cut a little time from when we tested here,” said Huntley. “It seemed like we could do as many 1:31.2’s as we wanted but our tire situation wasn’t really up for pushing harder than that. I stayed out on a worn tire and we’ll change that for tomorrow and pick up some more time. There’s a lot riding on this weekend and it’s going to be a lot of fun to end the season with the shootout-style championship.” Tomy Puerta’s best time was 1:31.811. The hard-charging Colombian worked on his Yamaha R6 settings on Friday with positive results. “The morning session started out not so good as the bike was sliding around a lot. I decided just to keep riding and get laps in. A lot of people tested here and I think that helped them. The team tried a new rear tire for the second session and that really helped. When I pushed in qualifying, I realized I needed more grip at the front too, and we have that figured out for tomorrow.” Sam Nash one again reprises his role as the world’s fastest law student this weekend. LTD Racing’s Top Gun entry once again found his pace. Sam took the day off from law school and drove over from Atlanta to take part in the season finale. He qualified 13th at 1:33.140. “I felt good at the end of qualifying as I got looser on the bike and more comfortable,” said Sam. “I drove up this morning from school and it feels good to be here. My goal is to get in the top ten and I’m right there. I need to drop another half-second. I needed this vacation and I want to make the most of it!” LTD Racing’s Gary Medley was happy with the results. “I think it was good with Huntley. We tested here and he got relaxed and it showed today. He can run consistent, fast times. Tomy picked up the pace at the end and it was coming together for him, too. He’s happier with the bike and his times are dropping. Sam, what can you say? He jumped on the bike after not riding for a while and found his speed quickly. He put laps in and got more comfortable and the hand he injured at Road Atlanta is working a lot better at this race.” LTD Racing will compete in the first 17-lap race of the weekend tomorrow at 1 PM local time.
