Michelin Pro Series Sanctioned by ASRA September 25-26, 2010 Virginia International Raceway Alton, VA Michelin Pro Series Celebrates the End-of-Summer Cyclefest at VIR It’s time for the End-of-Summer Cyclefest and the Michelin Pro Series is headed for the Virginia International Raceway for this last event of the summer. With the potential of clinching championships before the final round at Homestead in October, several riders are heading to VIR with more than just a victory on their minds. One rider looking to “double-dip” this weekend is Joel Spalding of Huntley IL. Spalding, the point leader in both ThunderBike and SuperStock can clinch both titles with a little luck at VIR. In ThunderBike, Spalding and his Ducati 749 has an almost insurmountable lead over fellow Mid-West racer Jay Smith, Joel has to do is finish within three positions of Jay to lock up his first Michelin Pro Series Championship. The real challenge comes in the Superstock race where Spalding’s lead is only 8 points over Shane Narbonne. Narbonne from Tyngsboro, MA has won all three Michelin Pro Series Superstock races he’s run on his Suzuki 1000, while Spalding aboard his KTM RC*R has turned consistency into a solid point lead with 2 rounds left. If Narbonne fails to finish at VIR and Spalding can rack up another win, Joel will earn him his second Michelin Pro Series Championship on Sunday afternoon. For SuperBike, it will be the point leader Mike Selpe from West Orange NJ looking to seal the championship. Selpe, who enjoys a 29 point advantage over Jason Farrell, only has to finish eighteen or better to win his first Michelin Pro Series Championship. Farrell, who is concentrating on his Championship Cup Series Mid-West Championships, is expected to skip the VIR round in favor of the double point CCS event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway on September 26. In the ultra-competitive SportBike class, it is multi-time Michelin Pro Series Champion Jeff Wood in a tie for the title with Jason Farrell. While Wood cannot clinch the championship at the End-of-Summer Cyclefest, he can put himself in a position to win his 5th SportBike title in six years Michelin Pro Series qualifying starts at Noon on Saturday September 25th followed by Championship Cup Series racing until 5:30pm. On Sunday, CCS Racing starts at 10:00am, the Michelin Pro Series finals begin at Noon followed by more CCS action until 5:30pm. Spectator tickets are available at the gate from 8:00am daily.
