MRA Round 7 was held at Pueblo Motorsports Park on Sept. 18th & 19th under beautiful weather conditions. This was the penultimate race of the 2010 season and point battles were waged in every class. Especially good action was seen in Race of the Rockies GTU, where the top riders did everything possible for the win.

In fact Shane Turpin’s sponsor, Boulder Motor Sports, surprised everyone by bringing one of their former AMA Formula Extreme Ducatis for this round. Turpin did not disappoint, launching the new bike into the lead at the start of Race of the Rockies. Dalton Dimick was right behind Turpin off the line, immediately applying pressure and looking for a place to pass. Following close were Josh Galster and uber fast Texas racer Dustin Dominguez, battling to get by each other so they could move on to attack the front pair. Early on Dimick was already showing Turpin a wheel, while Dominguez and Galster were competing to see who would be the last of the latebreakers into big bad T1. Ricky Orlando moved up into 5th to spectate the Dominguez/Galster fight, with Chris Siglin chasing in 6th on a borrowed Hard Nutrition R6. A few laps later Dimick was all over Turpin and looked ready to pass into the lead, when he abruptly lost the front going into T9. Fortunately he was quickly up and ok, but clearly upset to have given up what looked to be the race of the season.

In the meantime Galster and Dominguez, whose battle had now turned into a fight over 2nd, were heading into T1 together, going faster than ever. As Orlando closed in, the intense pressure Galster and Dominguez were putting on each other through rough, fast T1 finally broke, and Dominguez went down in the high speed corner. He got up ok, but the bike looked to have sustained some damage. Freed from his struggle with Dominguez, Galster put his head down and began to chase Turpin and the ex-Formula Extreme Duc in earnest. Orlando, having now inherited 3rd, followed at a distance with Siglin in 4th.

With the laps counting down Galster slowly inched closer and closer, as if he was willing his 600 to catch the faster Ducati. On the final lap Galster did catch Turpin, attacking so fast there was no time for Turpin to counter, and with just a couple of corners left Galster held on for the checkers. It was a great race, and the upcoming final Round 8 promises to bring this season of RoR to a spectacular conclusion.

Six MRA class championships were clinched this weekend, with one round still remaining in the 2010 season. Wyeth Jackson captured the Ladies of the Rockies Championship, Keith Eastin is the Novice GTO Champion, Doug Kahl took the Solo Open Endurance Championship, and Shannon Moham dominated on his SV650 clinching three titles in one weekend; Lightweight GrandPrix, Solo Lightweight Endurance and Modern Vintage GTU Championships.

Round 8 will be the Finale of the 2010 MRA season, scheduled October 9th & 10th at High Plains Raceway. Race tickets are just $10 at the gate and kids under 12 get in free. Stop by any Colorado motorcycle dealership to pick up a free 2for1 gate entry. The MRA has waived reciprocity license fees for the remainder of 2010 and welcomes visiting racers to the grids!
