Eric Bostrom Got A Hands-On History Lesson Last Weekend At Road Atlanta

It was a star studded weekend at Road Atlanta for the Atlanta Historic Races. The event was jointly promoted by Historic Moto Gran Prix and Historic Sportscar Racing. This weekend the bikes were the stars. Eric Bostrom was on hand to test ride a variety of vintage race bikes that preceded his career. Among those that he rode were a 1936 Indian hand shifter, a 1979 Harley XRTT, a 1978 TZ750, a 1970 CR750, a 1974 CB750, 1993 “Yamahamonster”, a 1988 FZR1000 and a 1997 NSR500V. Session after session he was on the track getting his history lessons. As Eric said after the weekend, “It is ok to go to a museum to see these old bikes on display, but wouldn’t you rather see them in action?” Scott Russell showed up to show him the fast line on Saturday. Being that Road Atlanta is Scott’s home track, he went out to please his fans and have fun. He was blazingly fast showing the vintage riders the way. On Sunday it was Jason DiSalvo’s turn to show the fast line. He turned heads with his fast laps of 1:34 around Road Atlanta. He was back on the Moto2 bike he rode at Indianapolis and the crowd was thrilled to see it in action and get to examine it up close in the pits. In addition to the stars there was a full paddock of other vintage racers. Graziano Rossi’s 1981 KB1 Bimota superbike was on display as well as 1987 Virginio Ferrari’s YB4-R TT Formula 1 championship bike. An ex-GP 1994 Harris YZR500 was in attendance to add a little more two stroke presence. Historic Moto Gran Prix sincerely appreciates the support of Yamaha Motor Corporation, Michelin North America, EBC Brakes, Ohlins Suspension for their assistance in the production of a most successful event as well as Cycle World Magazine for event coverage. Also, Road Atlanta in it’s original configuration as the best road race course in the nation. Our very special thanks to Scott Russell, Jason Disalvo, Eric Bostrom and Geoff Maloney for attending to ride with us showing their skills and allowing our riders the thrill of being on track with such great gentlemen and championship winners. Historic Moto Gran Prix (HMGP) is an organization dedicated to the enjoyment of historic motorcycles for collectors, riders and fans. Our members enjoy not only displaying, but also riding and competing in gentleman’s racing at our events. As a virtual time machine of sights and sounds, Historic Moto Gran Prix recaptures an era of motorcycle racing not to be forgotten. Do you have a classic or collectible motorcycle, or perhaps a former professional race bike with a history? A Graves Yamaha, Ferracci Ducati, an Erion Honda, a Muzzy Kawasaki, a Yoshimura Suzuki or an ex GP bike? If so, contact Bill Brown at 404-379-6091 or www.historicmotogranprix.com. Historic racing series such as HSR represent the fastest growing segment of motorsports in the United States and Europe. In HSR, the cars are the stars, and spectators are treated to prior winners of great events such as the 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Daytona. Events are as educational as they are adrenaline-inducing, as fans are exposed to pieces of history at the track. Perhaps the best part of HSR events is the open feeling experienced by spectators; unlike other series, fans can stroll through the paddock to view the cars and talk with the drivers. As a “time machine” of sight and sound, historic racing recaptures an era of motor sports when the cars were simple and the drivers were visible. www.hsrrace.com.
