FTR MOTO GRIEF ON TRAGIC DAY AT MISANO FTR MOTO would like to offer its condolences to the family of Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa who lost his life in Sunday’s San Marino round of the World Championship at the Misano circuit. Tomizawa was one of the emerging stars of the new World Championship class the 19-year-old winning the opening round in Qatar and his ability and potential were evident in the 10 rounds prior to Misano. FTR’s Steve Bones said: “Everyone at FTR Moto, like the GP paddock, is totally stunned by the news regarding Shoya. This is a very sad and tragic accident and we can only offer our thoughts to his family and hope they are proud of the very exciting talent that Shoya clearly brought to the World Championship.” In Sunday’s race Andrea Iannone, on the Speed Up FTR machine, retired with an electrical problem with three laps to go in the 26-lap affair all after leading the race then suffering a ride through penalty for jumping the start. He rejoined in 37th place and was in 15th place when he was forced to stop. Gabor Talmacsi took his eighth top 10 finish from the 11 races so far as he crossed the finish line in seventh place to move into eighth place in the World Championship. Joan Olive, the substitute rider for Alex Debon, took his best finish of the year with 21st place on the FTR M210, lapping faster in the race than in qualifying. Czech Republic rider Karel Abraham, still feeling the effects of a crash at Brno last month, again opted to withdraw from the race. More, from an updated press release, including correction, issued by M3 Racing: GAIGE SWEEPS SPRINTS @ BEAVERUN M3 Racing’s Sam Gaige finished off Round 8 of the WERA North East Regional Series with a total of 8 race wins, including a sweep of all 7 races entered on Sunday. Late Friday night a cold front moved into the area resulting in below average temperatures, along with high winds. Gaige and teammate, Justin Holderman, quickly proved the weather had no affect on their riding, setting personal bests by running under the 0:58 mark. Holderman entered 3 races for the weekend, and claimed three 2nd place finishes with a best laptime of 0:57.817. Ontop of 8 wins for Gaige, he ran a fast laptime of 0:57.547 during the C Superstock race aboard his Yamaha R6, which is the quickest documented time around the track on a 600cc machine. ***CORRECTION: the time of 0:57.547 is currently 2nd fastest time on a 600cc machine around Beaverun. An event was overlooked and Robert Jensen’s ran a time of 0:57.379 on August 31st 2008. We apologize for the mistake. M3 Racing.*** #20 Sam Gaige: “I came into this weekend with high expectations of myself. The past few rounds I have been setting personal best laptimes, and I knew Beaverun was another track that I could find a little more time to knock off. We ran some practice on Friday, and before the storm rolled in I was running my race pace times from the last time we were here. At the end up Sunday I had exceeded my goals for the weekend by sweeping all the sprint races on Sunday, and setting the fastest 600 laptime around the track. It’s not all the wins that really made the weekend great for me, it was the laptime that I’m most proud of. My Markbilt Yamaha R6 was amazing, and the entire pit crew worked hard to make all this happen for me. I can’t thank them enough, as well as the rest of the team sponsors.” M3 Racing’s next stop on the schedule will be September 18-19 at Summit Point Raceway for Round 9 of the WERA North East Regional Series M3 Racing would like to thanks all of the team sponsors for their support: MOMS, Markbilt Racebikes, Dunlop, Moto-Liberty, RS-Taichi, SIDI, Graves Motorsports, Chickenhawk Racing, Sharkskinz, Vortex, Pit-Bull, EBC Brakes, Silkolene, Spiegler, Zero Gravity, Shahin Enterprises, and Drippinwet.com.
