TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha: Five Podium Finishes in Five Races

SUMMIT POINT, W. Va.–TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha continued their class podium streak during Saturday’s six-hour WERA National Endurance Series race at Summit Point. Their third-place finish in Heavyweight Superbike gives them five class podiums in five races.

Chuck Ivey, James Vanderhaar and Scott Brown shared riding duties on the TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1.

Vanderhaar started the race, and instantly he could tell that the rear suspension was too soft: the rear shock was bottoming out and causing undue wear on the Michelin tires. Vanderhaar stuck it out, and the team adjusted the suspension settings during the first scheduled pit stop. Further adjustments during subsequent pit stops improved the R1’s handling even more.

“I had a big moment in turn nine and almost high-sided,” says Vanderhaar. “After I came in and we made changes, my second and third stints were much better. My lap times during my next stint were about one second quicker despite being on a three-hour old front tire.”

Ivey rode the second stint, followed by Brown. Each rider took another turn on track before Vanderhaar rode the final push to the checkered flag. “The bike definitely improved with each stint and we were all able to ride the bike better,” says Ivey. “Our riders are also our crew, and they showed great teamwork and technical expertise by making adjustments without losing time in the pits.”

“Handling both pit crew and riding duties makes it that much more gratifying,” says Brown. “When we come together like that, it makes us feel that much better with our results.”

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha owner Ivey also credits the EBC Brakes and EK Chain for the team’s fourth overall finish amid increased competition. “Summit Point is a fast track, and the EK Chain gets the power to the rear wheel. Our EBC Brakes held up in the hard-braking turns throughout the entire six hours,” he says.

Ivey recently returned from a two-week trip to China. He had just three days at home before leaving for Summit Point, and now the team is preparing for round six this weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

TVR’s sponsors include EBC Brakes, Michelin, Yamaha, Aiken Motorcycle, XES Leather, MotoHeaven.com, Arai, Vortex, EK Chains, VP Fuels, and Dyno Jet. Keep up with the team’s season and find pictures online at www.TeamVelocityRacing.com.
