Continuing as the Official Motorcycle of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Sponsor of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix MONTEREY, Calif. (July 24, 2010) Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S. executives announced today at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix that they have agreed to renew their sponsorship as the Official Motorcycle of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. “This in an important marketing component of the Yamaha brand in North America,” said Bob Starr, Communications Manager of Yamaha Motorsports Group. “The continuity of the partnership with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will build on the past six years of being the Official Motorcycle and sponsor of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. It is great to have such an iconic race track that we can call home.” “Without the support and counsel from our friends at Yamaha it would never have been possible to bring MotoGP to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “Yamaha is a leader in motorsports and their support provides us the opportunity to continue taking the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix forward. Their investment and partnership are signs of their commitment to the sport and to our loyal fans.” Yamaha contributed $2 million toward track upgrades that allowed the MotoGP World Championship to return to the United States and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2005. The company also assisted with a significant portion of the $7 million in track safety modifications and improvements in 2006. The term of this new agreement incorporates genuine Yamaha Parts and Accessories, specifically the Yamalube and GYTR brands. The term of this new agreement coincides with the current MotoGP agreement with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca which goes through 2014. The Yamaha Marketplace, the well-known and highly attended vendor area located in the lakebed of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, will also continue. The Yamaha Marketplace attracts vendors representing all areas of motorsports, motorsport memorabilia, motorcycling and motorcycling accessories. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was established in 1957. The world-renowned raceway has been operated since its inception by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), a not-for-profit 501C(4) corporation. Each race season, SCRAMP donates its net proceeds to the volunteer groups that help put on the races. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s world-class 2010 racing schedule includes the American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patrón May 21-23, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix featuring MotoGP World Championship July 23-25, the Pre-Reunion August 7-8, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion August 13-15 and the Global Tuner Grand Prix October 22-24.
