AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Preview Twenty-Eight SuperBike Entries for Big Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Weekend DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Hot off the heals of an exciting weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike series will once again take to the track for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, July 23-25. The battle for this year’s championship is up for grabs but two riders in particular laid claim to the title at last weekend’s Mid-Ohio race. Team Graves Yamaha rider Josh Hayes posted his fourth win of the 2010 season with a flawless performance in Saturday’s race. But his main championship rival, Tommy Hayden came right back on Sunday with a very determined ride on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki for his third National Guard SuperBike win of the season. Hayden fought back from what was a ten point deficit after Saturday to just a four point difference going into the Sunday, July 25th SuperBike race right after the MotoGP race. Joining these two in the chase for the championship are National Guard Jordan Suzuki rider Jake Zemke, who won the two opening races this year at Daytona under the watchful eyes of team owner Michael Jordan. Zemke’s teammate Aaron Yates continues to recover from an early season injury but his replacement rider, Canadian Brett McCormick, ran a great race at Mid-Ohio on Sunday and passed his teammate on the very last lap for fifth. Right behind Zemke in the points is Larry Pegram and his fan favorite Foremost Insurance Ducati. Pegram, in his local race at Mid-Ohio, posted a fourth place finish Saturday and went one better Sunday with third place. Pegram also won earlier this year at Auto Club Speedway. Pegram was able to beat Ben Bostrom on Sunday after Bostrom had taken third on Saturday. Bostrom has quietly worked his way right back into the thick of things with his Pat Clark Motorsports team Yamaha. Making a welcome return to AMA Pro Racing competition is multi-championship and race winning legendary rider Miguel Duhamel aboard the Moto Forza Nova Tac Racing Ducati. Another rider returning to action at last week’s Mid-Ohio round and again at Laguna Seca is Eric Bostrom aboard the Cycle World Attack Performance Yoshimura Suzuki. This continues the trend that saw Canadian SuperBike Champion Jordan Szoke take part in the Mid-Ohio round of the AMA Pro series and he has expressed his interest in running fulltime in the AMA Pro National Guard series in 2011.In another interesting twist, all three Hayden brothers will be racing this weekend at Laguna Seca, Nicky and Roger Lee in the MotoGP and Tommy in the National Guard SuperBIke race. These riders and the many other regular National Guard SuperBike competitors will be competing as twenty-eight entries have been received for the July 23-25 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix MotoGP event weekend. Better yet, the field will be competing for the Double Purse for this race too. Practice and qualifying will begin on Friday, July 23 and the National Guard SuperBike race will be Sunday, July 25. More, from another press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Preview Series will race with MotoGP Stars at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca This Weekend DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After a weekend that saw the points chase break wide open, AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL rolls into Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in conjunction with the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix which is one of two appearances for MotoGP in the United States. Daytona 200 winner and points leader Josh Herrin riding his Team Graves Yamaha took race one at last weekend’s Mid-Ohio event in another display of his very impressive speed. In what is now the accepted norm, the Daytona SportBike class sees any of at least ten riders battling for the race wins and last weekend was no different. Hayes, 2009 Daytona SportBike Champion Danny Eslick on his GEICO Powersports Suzuki, M4 Monster Energy Suzuki rider and five-time 2010 winner Martin Cardenas, former Daytona 200 winner Team Latus Motors Ducati rider Steve Rapp along with DNA Energy Drink Ducati rider Bobby Fong and Josh’s Team Graves Yamaha teammate Tommy Aquino all mixed it up in both races at Mid-Ohio. All took turns leading and it was only a heroic set of passing maneuvers on the last lap that enabled Herrin to win race one on Saturday. On Sunday, they went right back at it and only a late-race incident enabled Eslick to break away from the pack and take his second Daytona SportBike win of the year, putting him only two points behind Herrin in the chase for the championship. In addition to the valuable points and the opportunity to shine on the world stage in front of the MotoGP crowd, the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike field will race for a Double Purse this weekend. Right behind the front group at Mid-Ohio and for that matter all year has been Vesrah Suzuki teammates Cory West and Chris Fillmore, Dane Westby and Clinton Seller out of the new Project 1 Atlanta Yamaha team and P.J. Jacobsen riding for the very capable Celtic Racing Suzuki team. Each of these riders has featured in many of the races and all are poised to win. Practice and Qualifying begin Friday, July 23 and the Daytona SportBike race will be Sunday morning, July 25 prior to the MotoGP event at Laguna Seca. Watch for the SPEED TV race broadcast at 12:00 Midnight EDT Sunday night/Monday morning, July 26th. Please visit www.mazdaraceway.com for full schedule and ticket information. More, from another press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: AMA Pro SuperSport Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Preview Young Gun Riders Will Display Their Talents On World Stage With Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Event DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The exciting AMA Pro SuperSport class will show the world just how bright the future is for American motorcycle racing with another race in this year’s AMA Pro SuperSport Championship at the July 23-25, 2010 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Young Gun class will be racing in company with the World Championship MotoGP event. One key element will be missing though, as last weekend’s double winner J.D. Beach will not be competing in the West Division race. Beach currently leads the East Division point standings over Rockwall Performance Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier, who will be racing this weekend. Beaubier will be racing out of his division as he did earlier in the year when he won the Infineon Raceway SuperSport race in May. Newly crowned West Division Champion Joey Pascarella will be racing at Laguna Seca with a clear mission in mind. Now that he has clinched his Divisional points crown, he is only focused on winning at a track that is one of his favorites. Pascarella and his DNA Energy Drink CNR Motorsports team enjoyed a successful Sunday at Mid-Ohio in clinching his Divisional points title with his sixth place finish. Another rider who is looking forward to returning to the West Coast is Lucas Oil Roadracingworld.com Suzuki rider Elena Myers. Myers, who hales from Discovery Bay, California, made history earlier this year when she took a well deserved and hard fought victory at the Infineon Raceway event back in May. Myers ran a spectacular race at Infineon and won the race with skill and speed right from the drop of the green flag; she took everything the other top riders in SuperSport could throw at her but she would not be denied and won the race in very convincing fashion to make history in AMA Pro motorcycle racing with the first sprint race professional win for a female rider. Her win was a truly significant event that she backed up the next day by again riding straight to the front when late in the race she was caught up in another rider’s overzealous passing attempt. Myers is in second place in the West Division points, well ahead of third place. The main protagonists for the Rockwall Performance Yamaha team have been the LTD Racing Yamaha team. Run by racing legend Gary Medley, young riders Huntley Nash, Tomas Puerta and Jake Gagne have all been part of the close racing this year in SuperSport. Gagne, who last competed with LTD Racing at Infineon rejoins the team fresh off of his recent win in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race at Sachsenring during the German motorcycle GP. Nash won at Road America last month and Puerta continues to accumulate podium finishes as he sits third in East Division points behind only Beach and Beaubier and one point ahead of his teammate Nash. Another West Coast rider who is rejoining the series is Scott Gilbert on his Team Graves Yamaha. Gilbert had a couple of podium finishes at Auto Club Speedway earlier in the year and also ran well at Infineon. Tyler O’Hara is another rider who raced at Infineon earlier this year and took a couple of podium fishes himself. O’Hara and his GP Bike Parts Mach 1 Yamaha will race in the Top Gun category which enables local riders who posses an Expert Level License from an accredited Road Racing organization to enter and race under the halo of an AMA Pro Road racing event. Practice begins on Friday, July 23rd, Qualifying and the SuperSport race will be on Saturday, July 24th. The other AMA Pro Road Racing classes along with the MotoGP races will also be taking place during the July 23-25 weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
