First Motorsports Park to Receive Audubon Designation BIRMINGHAM, AL Barber Motorsports Park has received certification in Environmental Planning from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP), an international program administered by Audubon International and designed to help landowners preserve and enhance the environmental quality of their property. The Barber Park is the only motorsports park in the world to hold this certification. “The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program is an opportunity for people to do something good for the environment right where they live, work and recreate” explained Jim Sluiter, Staff Ecologist for Audubon International. “We welcome the Barber Motorsport Park’s commitment to managing their property in an environmentally-sensitive manner.” “The Barber Motorsports Park is often described as the ‘Augusta of motorsports parks,'” said Mark Whitt, Track Facilities Manager, “so this certification makes sense.” Audubon International is an environmental organization dedicated to educating, assisting, and inspiring millions of people from all walks of life to protect and sustain the land, water, wildlife, and natural resources around them. In addition to business, Audubon International also provides programs for golf courses, schools, communities, and new developments. Open since January 2003, the Barber Motorsports Park is a major tourist attraction for Birmingham and Alabama. It is the home of the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, the Porsche Sport Driving School and the Kevin Schwantz Motorcycle School, and it annually hosts dozens of racing events, meetings and conventions. In April 2010, the first Indy Grand Prix of Alabama was held at the Barber Park.
