MRA Round 4 Pueblo Motorsports Park July 10th & 11th
After enduring a weekend of fierce race battles and a crash in rainy Round 3, Shannon “Mohammer” Moham returned with a vengeance for Round 4 of the MRA series. Known for his relentless fitness, Moham took a win and immediately followed it up with a podium in his back to back Solo Endurance races. He swept the top spot in 3 more classes, added a pair of 4th place finishes on the Superbike grids, and brought home a strong 5th in his eighth race of the weekend, the premier Race of the Rockies GTU.
The Race of the Rockies GTO brought the crowd to its feet as Dan Turner demonstrated his mastery of the Pueblo road course. Doug Kahl got the holeshot but immediately suffered a red flag after Mike Applegate took a high speed fall in uphill turn 5, fortunately walking away from the incident. Kahl got his chance at a do-over and took the holeshot again on the restart. This time Dan Turner quickly passed Kahl after the second start and smoothly began to gap. Both Kahl and Dave Lambert attempted to close on Turner’s lead, but Dan had his set up dialed in over the rough circuit. As Turner flowed away from the field, Lambert made a charge into 2nd place, only to realize in agony that he was running out of fuel. Signaling wildly to his crew on each successive pass by the pits, Lambert sweated the dwindling gas fumes until he saw his man running back with a can. After pitting to re-fuel, Lambert eventually rejoined the race and finished in 7th. Turner won easily with Kahl in second and visiting SMRI racer Ray Thornton taking third.
The MRA returns to High Plains Raceway on July 31st/August 1st for Round 5. This event will feature the Toyota Trucks 4-Hour Endurance Race, offering both team endurance and “Iron Butt” solo rider categories. For this event ABATE of Colorado will host a “Day at the Races”, bringing out their statewide membership to spectate and setting up a BBQ, door prizes, and live band for the post-race party. The MRA has waived 2010 reciprocity license fees and anticipates a strong turnout of visiting endurance racers.

More, from a press release issued by Shannon Moham’s publicist:
4 Race Wins for MRA racer Shannon Moham in Pueblo, Colorado.
It didn’t take long for road racer Shannon Moham to realize that the MRA’s round 4 was going to be a challenge, not unlike any others race weekend of his 2010 race season. After getting T-boned in the leg during his last race of the weekend at High Plains 3 weeks ago, Moham wasn’t even sure he was going to be able to race. He hadn’t been able to bend his leg 90 degrees up until the day before leaving for Pueblo. Thanks to Ryan Winters, DPT, CSCS, at Rocky Mountain Spine and Sport’s intense physical therapy for the past few weeks, Moham was hopeful that he would be able to at least get on his motorcycle. However, after only 2 laps on Friday’s track day, Moham’s leg wasn’t his main worry. He had to pull off the track after the SV motor started giving him problems. Realizing he had spun a rod bearing, Moham had to quickly swap motors Friday afternoon. With no track time and not having been to Pueblo at all this year, he was skeptical to say the least, as temperatures rose Saturday morning of the race weekend. But finally, Moham had the weekend he’s been looking for since the start of this 2010 season. 4 race wins, a third in Heavyweight Endurance, 2 fourths in MWSB and HWSB and a fifth in ROR U! “We’ve struggled all season with what seems to have been little issues that just kept adding up,” Moham stated. “Finally, everything has started to fall into place,” he said, noting that his Race Tech suspension was top notch and his Michelin tires were fantastic in the heat. “I couldn’t have been happier with Race Tech, my suspension and shock, and with Michelin tires and Vanmar Racing!”
Moham rode up front in both MWSB and in ROR U and was able to finish nicely with fourth and fifth places. He battled with Josh Galster during HWSB and ROR U and noted, “I have a lot of respect for Josh, he really stayed on me and just picked the right spots to put the hammer down and get by me.” But with things falling into place for this dedicated racer, the skies the limit. He notes he has the best equipment out there, from the best sponsors, and he’s excited to have his R6 finally running at it’s true potential. This is Moham’s second weekend bringing home 4 race wins and he has nothing but good things to say about his Mighty SV that has helped make those wins possible.
With High Plains right around the corner, Shannon Moham is ready to give his fellow racers a run for their money. “I’ve always had it in me to race up front with these incredibly fast guys that we have in the MRA. I’ve just had to struggle with some bike issues this year, as all of us do at one time or another. ” But watch out boys and girls, cause Mohammertime is ready and, with his favorite pit crew (wife Segren and 1 yr old daughter Denver) cheering him on, he’s gonna be someone you’re going to have to keep your eye on!
Shannon would like to give a special thanks to all that helped make this past weekend possible: Race Tech, Michelin Tires and Vanmar Racing, Rueben at 35 Motorsports, GPR Stabilizers, Silkolene, Galfer, Woodcraft, Vortex, Lockhart Phillips, Intermountain Race Fuels, Bazaaz Performance, Vickery Motorsports, Fuel Cel, Worldwide Bearings, Team Papajohn, his Mom and family and wife Segren and daughter Denver.
