All Bikes, All Weekend Drag bikes, Superbikes share Brainerd Int’l Raceway next weekend BRAINERD, Minn. Race fans who enjoy two-wheeled action at full throttle and on the edge of disaster will be right at home Friday through Sunday at Brainerd International Raceway during the All Bike Weekend. On the drag strip, a variety of drag bikes will be racing a quarter mile at a time. Everything from street bikes to Pro Stock bikes that crank out speeds over 180 mph will be competing. In all, more than 150 bikes are expected to come from throughout the Midwest. On the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course, the Central Roadracing Association will showcase its brand of Superbike racing, where riders scream around the track on two wheels and a knee. They average speeds over 80 mph during super-competitive racing action. The action will include an all-women’s race, in honor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. In addition to great racing on both tracks, fans will be treated to a stunt show at 2 p.m. Saturday by the Squidwheelies Sportbike Freestyle Team. At noon on Saturday and Sunday, the CRA is hosting a “Drive the Track” fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Fans can drive the road course with the CRA, which is accepting donations. Those who donate $100 or more will be eligible for prize drawings that include a pair of diamond earrings from Riddle’s Jewelry. “If you love to watch bikes race, then you’ll want to be at BIR for the All Bike Weekend,” BIR owner Jed Copham said. “The increasing popularity of drag bike racing is what led us to put together an event just for them, and we’re certain it’ll be a big hit. Throw in the CRA and its Superbike racing, and you’ve got a crazy weekend of racing.” It’s a Dual Event Weekend, meaning that one ticket gets you in to see both forms of racing. Racing will go on rain or shine, and daily admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids. On-site camping is available. Now in its 42nd season, Brainerd International Raceway is one of North America’s largest race tracks, featuring a world-class quarter-mile drag strip, the 3.1-mile, 10-turn Donnybrooke Road Course, the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course, 300 acres for rustic camping, 164 full-service RV sites and 12 on-site condos. BIR is about 120 miles north of the Twin Cities. For more information, visit www.BrainerdRaceway.com, or call 1-866-444-4455.
