Mashel AL NAIMI, Qatar (BQR-MOTO2), 1:43.260 More, from a press release issued by Marc VDS Racing Team: DIFFICULT START FOR MARC VDS IN ASSEN The Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding and Hector Faubel had a difficult start to the Dutch TT weekend in Assen. Redding struggled with rear traction issues to finish 24th fastest this afternoon, while Faubel finished down in 30th place after experiencing set-up problems during the one-hour free practice session. Expectations were high for Redding, who arrived in Assen off the back of fourth place at Silverstone just four days ago, but rising track temperatures at the Circuit van Drenthe meant the 17-year-old Briton was losing time out of every turn, as he struggled to drive his Suter MMX out of the corners. Faubel struggled to hold a line through the ultra-fast Ruskenhoek, Meeuwenmeer and Ramshoek corners during free practice today, with the bike running wide every time the 26-year-old Spaniard opened the throttle on corner exit. Faubel will study the data overnight with crew chief Trevor Morris, to identify exactly how they need to change the set-up of the Marc VDS Suter MMX machine to get the bike to track better through the turns. Both riders are keen to put in a good performance in tomorrow’s all-important qualifying session, which will be avidly watched by the President of the Marc VDS Racing Team, Marc van der Straten. Scott Redding #45: 24th – 1’41.208 “I had some problems getting the rear to hook up out of the turns and that’s costing me time. It’s just a little bit at every corner, but it all adds up over a lap and that’s why we are lower down the timesheet than we were expecting today. I felt like I was pushing hard, but the lap time definitely says different, so we need to find a better set-up ahead of tomorrow’s practice and qualifying sessions. I don’t think we need to make any big changes, but we do need to find better drive in order to close on the frontrunners here.” Hector Faubel #55: 30th – 1’41.581 “Today was not a good day. The bike just doesn’t hold a line through the faster turns; as soon as you start to open the throttle it runs out wide and you have to shut off to bring it back. Right now I’m not sure what we need to change to improve things, I need to sit down with my crew and go through the data from today, to see exactly where we have to make the set-up changes. I’m not happy with my lap time today, but I am trying to remain positive and I hope we can improve tomorrow.” Pete Benson: Scott Redding’s Crew Chief “Our expectations were quite high, coming here as we did off the back of fourth place in Silverstone, but we had similar issues to those we experienced at the Jerez race today. Once the track temperature increases the tyres start to move around more and Scott loses a little bit of confidence in the amount of grip available. The grip is there; it’s just that the feedback from the tyres doesn’t reflect this. Scott needs to think back to Jerez, where he managed to overcome this problem. If he does this tomorrow, when the track temperature is predicted to be the same at today, then we should be able to significantly improve our position during qualifying.”
