After his stunning performances at last weekend’s International North West 200 road races, when he won a thrilling Superstock race, Keith Amor will now campaign the HM Plant Honda Superbike for the forthcoming Isle of Man TT races. The ride became available after Steve Plater crashed at the Irish meeting sustaining a broken arm and Amor will now take over from the Lincolnshire rider, a chance that he jumped at when the offer was made. He will line up in the team for the Superbike and Senior races alongside TT legend and 15-times winner John McGuinness whilst he will continue to campaign the Kojak Racing Honda and WA Corless/Jackson Racing BMW in the Supersport and Superstock races respectively. With three TT podiums under his belt already, success in the Superbike races has thus far eluded the Falkirk rider with 7th in the 2008 Superbike race his best result to date but this move represents the 38-year old’s first ever opportunity with a ‘factory’ backed team and, currently the ninth fastest rider ever to have lapped the 37 and 3/4-mile Mountain Course, it’s an opportunity he intends to grab with both hands. Speaking today, a delighted Amor said: “I’ve gone from having nothing at all to one of the most sought-after rides in the paddock and to be lining up at the TT on a HM Plant Honda Superbike is unbelievable and I couldn’t be happier. I’m extremely grateful to everyone at HM Plant and Honda for giving me the opportunity but also to all the guys at KBMG Racing for allowing me to take over the ride and I aim to repay the faith they have all shown in me with some strong results. Obviously, everyone at KBMG dug deep to get me back out on track for the North West 200 and it’s testament to what we did there that I got the nod for the HM Plant bike so for them to stand back and effectively park the BMW they’d purchased is really humbling. They all want me to succeed and I know they’ll be right behind me so, as well as giving it my all for the two big bike races, I’ll be doing my best to put the Kojak Racing and WA Corless/Jackson machines on the top step of the podium too – bring it on!” Practice for the Isle of Man TT Races starts on Saturday 29th May.
