WSS: Top 10 again for Rea at Kyalami, South Africa. Joint 6th in championship after 6 World Supersport races 16th May 2010- A hard race saw Gino finish 9th, another top 10 finish in his debut World Supersport season. Although Rea scored valuable points for himself and the Intermoto team to keep him joint 6th in the championship, Gino was slightly dissapointed with the final race result. The young Lononer got quicker and quicker in each session over the weekend but a crash in qualifying resulted in starting 12th position for the race. Back on the bike for the first time in Warm up on Sunday morning, Gino done his best lap of the weekend and finished the session in 7th, less than a tenth from 4th place. This looked good for Gino’s race pace and as the race got underway he moved up to 9th, just behind team mate Massimo Roccoli. Unfortunately their first two laps wern’t as quick as the leaders which caused a gap to 7th place, but after a few laps Gino and Massimo started to lap at the same pace as Lascorz who was in the battle for 4th. Then, once they moved past Kawasaki rider Fujiwara, Massimo lost the front and crashed out with Gino right behind. The Triumph riders Lagrive and Salom got past Rea and nothing could be done as he started to loose grip from the front of the bike, almost crashing several times. Parkalgar rider Miguel Praia then made a move on Gino, but Rea stayed on his wheel and re-passed him on the final lap to finish 9th. Gino is now joint 6th in the World Supersport Championship after 6 races in his debut season. Gino’s words: ‘Once again I think I could have run further up the pack if I would have gotten away with them at the start. Which in turn, boils down to my crash in qualifying. I was on a good lap and lost the front, resulting in me starting from 12th place in the race. I think with a second row start I could have run with Lascorz during the race. After analysing our data and laptimes, Lascorz’s pace was around the same as mine after the 3rd lap, he just had the gap from the get go, and it was impossible for me to close it without crashing! Half way thought the race I had a problem with the front grip and I was having moments everywhere which was a bit scary after seeing my team mate go down! Miguel Praia came past but I held onto him and made another last lap, last corner pass on him for 9th! Its another top 10, and what’s important is that we had good pace throughout the sessions at a track I hadn’t seen before. Lets hope I can learn Miller Motorsports Park just as quick next weekend, I’ll be studying it hard from home that’s for sure!’
