AMA Pro Racing SuperSport Race Two Report West Coast Moto Jam – Infineon Raceway SONOMA, CA – Since his exciting first AMA Pro SuperSport win by 0.001 of a second at the season opening race at Daytona International Speedway, Cameron Beaubier has endured a series of unfortunate events that prevented him from winning again. In each case, what seemed like a sure win would be dashed by untimely red flags due to incidents not of his own making. Today at Infineon Raceway, Beaubier again had a red flag displayed while he was leading the race. It was almost a repeat of yesterday’s red flag, but this time Cameron made an excellent restart and pulled away to a dominant win, his second in AMA Pro competition. It was even more impressive due to the fact that Beaubier wasn’t riding his usual Rockwall Yamaha, but his own motorcycle with support from Mazda Technologies and Intel and crewed by friends and family. Beaubier reflected on his day, “It feels awesome, I had a little bad luck the last few races, but got a strong start on the restart and just took off. I felt really comfortable and the bike was working great all weekend.” Today’s race again saw some tremendous action and yesterday’s historic winner Elena Myers was featured again along with the other Young Gun riders in the 18-lap race around the 2.32-mile natural road course. A number of riders led the race and it was Myers, among others, who took a turn at the front, but this time she also had Joey Pascarella riding his repaired DNA Energy Drink CNR Motorsports Ducati, Huntley Nash on his LTD Racing Yamaha, Austin DeHaven with his Yamaha, local Top Gun entry Tyler O’Hara on his GP Bike Parts Racing Yamaha and another Top Gun entry, Scott Gilbert on his Team Graves Yamaha all wanting a piece of the action up front. Beaubier eventually worked his way to the front but in a repeat of yesterday, Pascarella had another unfortunate accident. As he came out of turn eleven on lap nine, his bike twitched and he fell off in front of a group of riders. Pascarella jumped up and a couple of riders just missed his stricken motorcycle. The race was red flagged to move his machine. After an inspection, Pascarella’s Ducati was quickly repaired and he was ready to go on the restart, although now at the back of the pack. On the restart, Beaubier made a perfect getaway and pulled out a commanding lead over Nash and Myers. The group behind, which was comprised of O’Hara, Gilbert and DeHaven, ran nose-to-tail and as, the race wound down, they began to catch Myers. With three to go, you could see the group closing in on Myers and as the group once again headed into the turn nine complex, everything got shuffled around. When the dust cleared, Myers was down to fifth and even more heartbreak occurred when Gilbert fell in turn four on the last lap. After starting at the back, Pascarella gamely worked his way back up to eighth at the finish to take some valuable points. Beaubier crossed the line to take a well deserved victory, his second of the season, but as he was racing out of his division, he didn’t gain any points towards the AMA Pro SuperSport East championship. Nash continued his excellent run of results this year and continues to gain valuable track time and experience. Local favorite Tyler O’Hara took a popular third place, his second of the weekend to the cheers of his friends and family in victory lane. DeHaven finished fourth, Myers took fifth, and Travis Ohge was sixth on his Yamaha followed by Matthew Sadowski on his Suzuki. Eighth was Pascarella, Robert Tinagero took ninth on his Kawasaki and another Top Gun rider, Michael Corbino finished tenth on his Yamaha. The AMA Pro Racing SuperSport class now returns to the Midwest for the next round of SuperSport East competition at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin’s Road America race, June 4-6. More, from a press release issued by The Elena Project: MYERS FOLLOWS UP HISTORIC VICTORY WITH ANOTHER HARD-FOUGHT RACE Lucas Oil Roadracingworld.com RMR Suzuki’s Elena Myers completed her historic Infineon Raceway weekend with another stirring ride on Sunday, backing up the front-running form she used on Saturday to claim her first career AMA Pro SuperSport victory. Myers shot to the front from her eighth-place grid position aboard her GSX-R600 and led several laps in the opening half of the Sunday race while clicking off her fastest laps of the weekend. A mishap with her kill switch dropped her a number of spots down the order near mid-distance, but the 16-year-old was given a second chance to fight at the front when a red flag to clean up crash debris stopped the race and reset the grid shortly following her miscue. At the restart she once again found herself battling for a podium placing. Despite struggling with a lack of grip from her rapidly wearing front tire, Elena worked hard to hold onto third place. It wasn’t to be, unfortunately, as she was unable to keep up her previous pace. She quickly regrouped and brought it home in fifth place as she notched up her third consecutive top-five result in AMA Pro SuperSport competition. Myers, the youngest woman to win a sprint race run during an AMA National weekend, and the first woman to win a featured AMA Pro road race said, “It was a good race at the beginning and it was a lot of fun. All of the riders at the front were racing really hard and everyone was going fast. We were pushing each other to go quicker and everyone was responding to the challenge. On the ninth lap I made a mistake by hitting my kill switch and was able to turn it back on pretty quickly after losing some spots. But then it got red-flagged so we started over again. I climbed up to the front and was battling for the lead again and was in third place having a great time putting on a show for the fans. Then the front tire started to go and it was pretty shredded. I was trying to manage it the best I could. I tried to hold on to third place but it just wasn’t possible. “We made up some points in the championship and it hasn’t quite sunk in yet that I won on Saturday,” the 16 year-old added. “I was an incredible weekend for the team, and my family, and me. I want to thank everyone who helped me, plus all the fans for supporting me as well. I can’t wait for the next race!” Myers closed up 30 points on the AMA Pro SuperSport West Division Championship leader at Infineon Raceway and currently sits second in the title chase with 92 points, 45 off the lead. She’ll look to reduce that deficit even further when she takes on the combined East/West SuperSport field at the high-speed Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on June 4-6. More, from a press release issued by Mojotown PR: Mazda Technologies and Cameron Beaubier win Sunday’s PRO SuperSport Race at Infineon Raceway. Today marked Cameron Beaubier’s second AMA victory in a season plagued with red flags. With Cameron 4 seconds in the lead, points leader Joey Pascarella crashed on the exit of turn 11 leaving his Ducati in the middle of the track, and the red flag came out again in an almost repeat performance of yesterday’s race. But unlike yesterday, Cameron got a fantastic start and lead the pack into turn 1. For the remainder 9 lap sprint, Cameron took charge and took the checkered flag with a 5 second margin. This win is Cameron’s second AMA pro win of the season. “Cameron did exactly what we knew he could do, which was run away” says Shawn Herrera the owner of Mazda Technologies. Cameron did not run his normal Rockwall Yamaha, but a private bike owned by his family in Rockwall livery, and sponsored by Mazda Technologies. “We had a fantastic volunteer crew this weekend”¦in addition to Jeff Beaubier as the master tech, we had Michael Aron of Mojotown (a local AFM Champion and shop owner), as well as Roland Cushway and Andrew Duafalla with last minute assistance to ensure the bike, rider and team had everything covered,” explained Herrera. “It was great to have the opportunity to work with Cameron and the Mazda Technologies team this weekend, especially with Sunday’s results. We wanted Cameron to show everyone why he was on the pole, and he didn’t disappoint. He rode a flawless race,” Says Aron. “This was an important weekend for Mazda Technologies as we try to secure additional sponsors and support for more of the West coast races. Cameron normally runs with Rockwall for the East Coast series. With the upcoming Laguna Seca round we wanted to put on a good show so we can secure additional sponsorship for Cameron to showcase his talents,” mentioned Herrera. More, from a press release issued by GP Bike Parts Racing: Tyler O’Hara Takes Two Third Place Finishes At The West Coast Moto Jam in Sonoma For GP Bike Parts Racing Amongst a historic weekend at Infineon raceway Tyler O’Hara has proved to be a true contender in the AMA SuperSport series. In a division dominated by young guns racers who are all racing in a points championship, Tyler is the first top gun rider to have a podium finish. In race one on Saturday, Tyler had a great start moving through the front of the pack, battling with Elena Myers, pulling away to ride a consistent third. The race was interrupted by a red flag and on the restart O’Hara took the holeshot, leading the race, later finishing on the podium third next to Myers with her historic first place win. “This third place podium means a lot to me and my team, thanks to GP Bike Parts who has backed me from the beginning,” remarked Tyler. In Sunday’s race two, yet again another red flag came out after nine laps and on the restart Tyler was able to jump into third until he drove it to deep in turn nine, dropping a few positions. As the white flag came out O’Hara, riding in sixth place, was really charging. By the end of the last lap, Austin DeHaven and Tyler had closed the gap on third place rider Elena Myers. Austin made the move for the final podium spot and soon it became a drag race for third place out of the last turn. Bumping handle bars, Tyler beat Austin by inches taking third place, his second of the weekend. “I had to work hard for that finish! I hope I gave you guys a good show,” said O’Hara as his dog Rowdy joined him on the podium. Special thanks for this event goes to Mach 1 Motorsports and Graves Yamaha.
