DiSalvo, 16 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Laverty and Parkalgar Honda dominate PARKALGAR HONDA ace Eugene Laverty led from the first corner to the chequered flag to win the fifth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza in Italy — giving him three wins out of five races in 2010 to date. Miguel Praia improved as the race progressed, bringing his Parkalgar Honda home in a respectable 10th after starting from 13th on the grid. The sixth round of the World Championship is in one week’s time at Kyalami in South Africa. Eugene: “I led into the first corner — I was able to brake late and pass the other two. Then I tried to make a break and read my pit board to control the gap. I was using my rear brake a little too much and cooked it so the oil boiled over and was on my boot towards the end. Kenan in second place kept me honest but it is great to get this win — my first back to back victories. Thanks to everyone in the team and it’s good that the Championship race is now much closer. I hope we can get the flights to South Africa OK as I like the circuit and had a good result there last year.” Miguel: “My Parkalgar Honda was perfect in the race and I grew in confidence with every lap. At the end I was catching the group in front and if there had been a few more laps I think I could have attacked them and improved my position. I am happy with my race performance but I need to find a way to perform like this from the start of practice on a Friday for the whole race weekend. Today shows that we have the potential and I am glad that we are racing again next weekend as we can continue to improve.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “There’s not much to say about Eugene’s performance it was simply mega. He won the race in the first two laps because he made the break and after that the first three matched each other’s lap times. Great job well done and three victories out of five races is impressive. Miguel also rode well — he was 1.1seconds faster in the race than he was in qualifying. If he was to get to that level quicker in the weekend he would be finishing in the top eight — he nearly caught the group fighting for seventh this race. More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Sofuoglu’s podium run continues at Monza Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider, Kenan Sofuoglu, finished second in today’s fifth round World Supersport championship race at Monza in Italy. The result maintains his 100% podium record for the 2010 championship. The result from today’s race, which was won by Honda rider, Eugene Laverty, also marks Sofuoglu’s 31st World Supersport podium finish extending his lead at the top of the all-time podium listings. The Turkish rider also heads the all-time winners list with 15 race victories. Sofuoglu’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, finished fourth in today’s 16-lap encounter around the historic 5.777km Monza circuit, matching his qualifying position but buoying the 23-year-old Italian who had crashed out of the previous two rounds. Kenan Sofuoglu second I really got held up by Joan [Lascorz] in the early part of the race today, and that allowed Eugene to open a bit of a gap at the front. I tried to close the gap and, with about two laps to go I was getting closer but I made a big mistake and lost a second and a half. That’s why Joan was able to close the gap back to me, which made the last lap a bit difficult. I think I had the bike to win today but I probably waited too long at the beginning. In the end we got some more points; it’s quite close between the three of us in the championship and hopefully the next race will be better. Michele Pirro fourth Well, I finished the race, which was very important for me! I am happy with the result because the CBR chassis was very good today and allowed me to attack the corners here at Monza. Unfortunately the leading three opened up quite a big gap which I couldn’t close, but after crashing in the last two races, I just wanted to bring the bike home today. The race pattern was similar to Assen, when I followe d the leading three riders for the first few laps, but then it was quite difficult. But the brakes were strong today, the chassis was good, and we need a little more acceleration out of the corners. We’ll work on that next week in South Africa. Ronald ten Kate team-manager I think we can say that second and fourth places are results that we are happy with. It means we have closed the gap to the championship leader, but there was really not much in it today. The top three rode at a very high level and the points difference between them is now down to ten. The Frenchman dropped several positions at the First Variante and finished lap one in thirteenth place. He then progressively gained back positions, but the battle for the podium had already been lost. Chaz Davies made a brilliant start to take third place but the Brit lost a few positions due to an issue at the back end of the bike which prevented him from riding the way he wanted to. David Salom finished eighth while Jason Di Salvo crashed at the Parabolica at the end of first lap, when he was trying to gain a few positions. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 6th : “I rode a very good race except for the start. By the end of the race I tried to pass Fujiwara and Pirro but I almost lost my balance. I did however gather important points for the standings”. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 7th : “I made a great start but unfortunately I did not continue on the same path because of a setup problem and so I couldn’t ride the bike at its full potential”. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 8th : “I didn’t get a good start at all and finished lap one in sixteenth place. I did however gain eight positions back despite Monza being a tough track for this kind of exploits. Too bad because I started very well the weekend and I was hoping for a podium result”. JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | retired : “I’m disappointed, it’s not a very good period for me. I started very determined, I could’ve ridden a good race. Unfortunately, I crashed at the Parabolica in the first lap while I was trying to avoid contact with another bike”.
