Imre TOTH (Honda CBR600RR), 1:55.783 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Eugene blasts to provisional pole at Monza PARKALGAR HONDA racer Eugene Laverty is on provisional pole position for Sunday’s fifth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza in Italy. Miguel Praia on his Parkalgar Honda is 12th but has the potential to compete in the top eight. There is another practice and qualifying session tomorrow before the race on Sunday at 1330 CET. Keep up to date with the team at www.parkalgarhonda.com. Eugene: “That was a really good day. In the morning I got out early in the dry and set the fastest time of the session. Then when it rained I was able to use the time to work on the wet set-up of my Parkalgar Honda. This afternoon we just improved the bike a lot in a short space of time. It feels so much better than it did last year and I have a lot of confidence in the front end and the chassis. If it rains tomorrow then we know we have a good dry set-up for the race on Sunday regardless. The engine on the Parkalgar Honda is good; Ten Kate and Kawasaki are on a par with us and it is very close though.” Miguel: “My qualifying position today is not so bad and most importantly we know how to improve my lap times. I just hope that it is dry tomorrow so that I can improve my starting position and compete for the second row. I am confident and my Parkalgar Honda is very quick, so there is every chance to do well this weekend.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “An impressive day from the Parkalgar Honda team. Eugene tried a couple of new tyre combinations and was consistently fast; he is right there and leading the pack on the first with plenty more to come from him as his confidence builds further. Miguel does have the pace for top eight here and ran in that position for some time in the session. He needs to work a bit harder on tucking in and his riding that will help him he knows that and will be looking to get well into the top 10 in qualifying tomorrow providing it is dry.” More, from a press release issued by HANNspree Ten Kate Honda: Kenan Sofuoglu and Michele Pirro were fifth and sixth fastest after today’s first qualifying session at Monza in Italy for Sunday’s fifth round World Supersport championship race. Provisional pole position was taken by Ireland’s CBR600RR-mounted Eugene Laverty as the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda duo worked on race settings for Sunday’s 20-lapper around the revised 5.777km Monza circuit. Wet conditions in this morning’s free practice session prevented much meaningful progress, although a less than optimistic forecast for the rest of the weekend may indicate a requirement for an optimum wet weather set up on Sunday. Kenan Sofuoglu P5 1’48.938s It hasn’t been a very good day today at least regarding the qualifying position. It was wet this morning, which meant that I couldn’t push as hard as I wanted. After the mistake that I made at Assen, we ha ve been wanting to work very hard on making sure that the CBR600RR is set up for the race and not one fast lap, but the weather has made it hard to make progress. I want to check a few things with my team and make some changes to the bike for tomorrow’s practice session so that we are all ready to put in a good qualifying time and a much better race on Sunday. Michele Pirro P6 1’49.448s Well, I am not happy with the position I’m in but we are definitely improving the feeling that I’m getting with the bike. We’ve got a plan to improve things for the morning but we’ve also been taking it quite easy because of the conditions today. I didn’t want to crash by pushing too hard too early that can come tomorrow as the bike improves. Ronald ten Kate team-manager Well, fifth and sixth is not the biggest disaster ever, but it& rsquo;s obvious that we still have some work ahead of us. With all the set-up problems we’ve had, we’re not so far off, though, so I’m sure we can fix the issues that face us and move to the front row with both riders tomorrow. So we’re not worried. Yet! More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: The Temple of Speed smiled on team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing today as David Salom took provisional front row after posting an excellent second fastest time. However, the Spaniard finished the session with a crash , in which Chaz Davies, who was doing his full-speed lap, was also involved. The Brit was forced to slow down and as a consequence only set the eleventh quickest time. Matthieu Lagrive finished in provisional second row, while Jason Di Salvo was fifteenth. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 2nd in 1’48.523 : “I experienced three exciting minutes today. The first one was finishing second, later on the crash at the Variante della Roggia. I lost control and Chaz, who was just behind me, hit my back. Luckily nothing happened but I’m sorry for slowing him down in his full-speed lap. However, I”m sure he’ll do better tomorrow”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 8th in 1’49.620 : “The time I posted today is not bad at all but still I’m not happy. If I get a better feeling with the bike, I could aim the front row. I’ll work on bike setup and hopefully will improve my feeling with the front”. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th in 1’50.334 : “I was making a lot of progress in the lap that I bumped David. I’m sure I could’ve improved my time. This is my first race at Monza. It’s a fascinating circuit, hopefully will gain a starting position within the first two rows”. JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 15th in 1’51.071 : “I couldn’t fully learn the circuit because of the rain. I didn’t the ride on the wake of the others, and so I’m confident I can improve tomorrow”.
