MIGUEL PRAIA and Eugene Laverty are expecting their 140bhp+ Parkalgar Honda World Supersport bikes to be well suited to the long straights at Monza in Italy for this weekend’s fifth round of the Championship. The PTR (Performance Technical Racing) prepared Parkalgar Honda was one of the fastest through the speed traps at the last round in Holland that Laverty won and that should help at the super-fast Monza track near Milan. There is practice and qualifying tomorrow and Saturday ahead of the race at 1330 CET on Sunday, May 9th. Miguel: “As soon as I arrived in Milan I was robbed and have lost everything – new leathers, lap-top and even my passport; it is not an ideal start to the weekend but I am going to focus my anger and frustration into my track performance. The main thing is that our Parkalgar Honda is very fast and that suits Monza. I am totally committed and motivated to get my best race result ever here.” Eugene: “As I was going to bed on Tuesday the volcano in Iceland erupted again and I had to get dressed and drive all night to get to Stansted in time for the flight to Italy – all flights from Northern Ireland were cancelled. I was tired yesterday but had a great sleep and am now looking forward to the race. The weather is looking dodgy for the whole weekend which could add a degree of spice and allow some other riders to challenge the top three. Our Parkalgar Honda is strong after Assen and fast, which is good for Monza which is basically a couple of long straights. A new chicane and revisions to the first chicane should improve the racing. I spent Monday watching my brothers Michael and John win and podium in British Superbikes so would like to win this weekend to cap a good seven days for the Laverty family.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “We got a good result at Assen and our Parkalgar Honda proved it is one of the quickest out there, which is vital for a good result at Monza. Eugene is building momentum and we are approaching every race with the attitude we want to win, although we know that it will not be easy. Miguel is back to full fitness and has an excellent opportunity to get into the top 10 as our bike is very strong here.”
