Ty Howard set a new track record en route to a three-win performance at round four of the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s championship series at Eagle’s Canyon Raceway near Decatur, Texas. In the meantime, Dustin Dominguez claimed five Expert wins as the two riders dominated the action during Sunday’s sprint races.

Howard set his high-water mark in the AVTEQ A Superbike, pushing his KTM RC8-R around the 2.5-mile course in a time of 1:45.648, while on his way to a six-second victory over GSX-R750-mounted Derek Wagnon. Howard also beat out Wagnon to win the Formula 1 race, and then topped William Guthrie to win the RaceworX A Superstock race.

Howard’s record eclipsed the old mark, a 1:46.236 set by Howard in September of 2008, by almost a second.

“We spent a lot of time getting the bike dialed in before the race and since we didn’t have an endurance race this week, I was able to concentrate more on the sprint races,” said Howard. “The bike is getting better with every race and it’s working well with the Dunlop slicks.”

Dominguez split time between his Kaw ZX-6R and an SV650, taking wins in the LMSTrackdays.com B Superstock, South Central Race Center C Superstock, D Superstock , Island Racing Services C Superbike, and Lightweight Twins Expert races. He also added three second-place finishes to round out the day.

“The SV races were close,” said Dominguez. “Darrell Ricks was going fast and we had some good dices.”

Ricks, in fact, beat Dominguez to win the Road & Track Suspension Formula 2 race, and the D Superbike race. Wagnon also beat Dominguez to win the SASuperbike.com B Superbike race.

Conner Blevins took the win in the ultra-competitive GMAN Productions 125 GP race, edging James Camacho Jr. by just 0.338 seconds.

Alonzo Contreras took the win in the Ridesmart Rookie Expert class, while Rick Kirk edged Eric Falt by 0.585 seconds to take a close victory in the Formula 40 Lightweight Expert race.

Other Expert-class winners included Ronnie Hay (HW Twins), Dewayne Davis (F40 HW), Ted Phillips (Unlimited Motard), Alan Phillips (Super Motard), Cameron Kirk (Classic Unlimited) Ryan Ambrose (Clubman) and Ryan Max Johnson (RentMyNinja.com E Superstock).

In the Novice divisions, Nemo Cockrell was easily the man of the day, after claiming six wins. Cockrell’s wins came in the Road & Track Suspension A Superstock, Moto Liberty C Superstock, Road & Track Suspension Formula 1, A Superbike races, Ridesmart C Superbike, and B Superbike races.

In other sponsored Novice races, Brandon Dennis won the Lone Star Track Days B Superstock race, Scott Eichhorn won the OnRoad OffRoad Suspension D Superstock race, Blake Loehr won the Road & Track Suspension D Superbike race, Isachar Perez won the Road & Track Suspension Heavyweight Twins race, Jordan Scott win the Road & Track Susupension Formula 2 race, and Jim Whitten won the Ridesmart Lightweight Twins race.

In all, 479 entries competed in Sunday’s 23 sprint races.

On Saturday, 30 Mini Endurance teams competed in the 12 Hours of Texas presented by Shogun Motorsports race, with Rheen Racing Too (Aaron Gore, Jeff Hughes, Dustin Dominguez, Clayton Schutz, Michael Schutz, Gabe McClendon) completing 429 laps to take the win on a Kawasaki EX250.

GMAN Racing 2 (Harry Tomlinson, Garet Tomlinson, Michael Rochester, Michael Guillot) completed 426 laps for second on an EX250, with third place going to similarly mounted Redline Roadracing (Austin Gore, Joey Howells, Brandon Altmeyer, Ryan Max Johnson), also completing 426 laps.

Top Dog Racing (Challen Tennant, Taylor Myers, Landry Songer, Blake Cochran) won the Formula 5 division on a KLX 160 with a 15th overall finish. Meanwhile, Underground Minis (Dustin Sperry, Wyatt Sperry, Jay Newton, Ryan Warren) won the F7 class with a 21st overall finish on a Honda NSF100. Team Duc (Revin Stoker, Don Stoker, Daniel Blankenship) took the F6 win in 23rd overall, also on an NSF100. The $5100 purse provided by long-time CMRA supporter Shogun Motorsports saw Rheen Racing Too take home $1250 for the overall win, while GMAN Racing 2 won $800 for second, Top Dog Racing claimed $600 for third, Davis Rod and Cycle (Jesse Davis, Brandon Altmeyer, Bill Syfan, Morgan Hunter, Wil Kitchens) got $400 for fourth overall, and eurtoast! (Zeb Harris, James Erwin, Alan Phillips, Tim Barnes, Chase Barnes) walked away with $350 for fifth overall.

In addition to the overall payout, the 12-hour race also paid $250, $100 and $75 for the top three finishers in each class.

Winners in Saturday’s mini sprints included Austin Gore (Road & Track Suspension F4), Marcus Beedle (OnRoad OffRoad Suspension F5), Roger Albert (OnRoad OffRoad Suspension F6), Wyatt Sperry (F7).

The CMRA returns to action on May 28-30 for a full slate of sprint racing, plus a 4-hour Big Bike Endurance race and a 3-hour Mini Endurance race. Go to www.cmraracing .com for more info.
