TIE, Sebastien Charpentier/Cazzola, 3 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Fantastic win for Laverty PARKALGAR HONDA — Eugene Laverty won his second race of the season in commanding style at the fourth round of the World Supersport Championship at Assen in Holland — his second win at the circuit in two-years. Miguel Praia lifted his game from 15th on the grid to finish a well-deserved 10th by the chequered flag. The next race is at Monza in Italy in two weeks time on Sunday, 9th May. Follow the progress of Eugene, Miguel and Parkalgar Honda on www.parkalgarhonda.com – you can also buy exclusive signed team T-shirts from the website, exactly the same as worn by the team at the race tracks. Eugene: “That was a fantastic race for me; I did not expect to ride away with it. As the race went on my lap times came down and my Parkalgar Honda got better and better. Whenever Joan passed me I hit straight back and was able to ride away, which made for an easier last lap compared to when I won here last year. Thank you to everyone in the Parkalgar Honda team, they have done a fantastic job with my bike at the workshops and here at the track, we have got more out of the bike and that is what has given us victory.” Miguel: “At the end of the day 10th is not such a bad result. In warm up we changed the bike to the same setting as Parkalgar after I had been struggling through the fast corners and immediately felt more comfortable. I was able to lap consistently which is what we wanted and knew we could be in contention for the top 10. I simply got in my rhythm and my Parkalgar Honda bike and team were fantastic. It has helped my Championship position and with two weeks before the next race I will have time to totally heal my wrist and ankle and will be stronger at Monza.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “That was a great day for Parkalgar Honda and just what we needed after two tough rounds. Eugene was brilliant and did his fastest time on the penultimate lap which is impressive. Miguel came through in the race after a hard couple of days practice and qualifying and it is good that he got a top 10 finish. He has got some of his fight back and looks better for it. A brilliant team effort from Parkalgar Honda and we will go from here with plenty of optimism for the coming rounds.” Race Result 1 50 Laverty E. The race was won by fellow Honda-mounted Eugene Laverty, with series leader Joan Lascorz finishing third with an eight-point series points lead over the Turkish Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider. Sofuoglu’s team-mate, Michele Pirro, suffered a third lap crash and, despite rejoining, his CBR600RR had sustained too much damage and the Italian was forced to retire. Kenan Sofuoglu 3rd It wasn’t a really good race for me because I’ve been fastest all weekend. When the others got past me, I thought I would wait and see what they could do, but where I knew I was fast, I couldn’t pass them. I was finding it difficult to brake really hard and don’t know whether this was because of the w armer conditions. Near the end of the race, I thought maybe I will just take the points. Of course, it would be nice to win especially at the team’s home race. Now, I will just work towards Monza where, for sure, I will do better than today. Michele Pirro DNF I am really disappointed at crashing again for me and my team. I ran a bit wide at the last corner at the end of the second lap and maybe I picked up some dirt on the left side of my tyres because, when I went into the hairpin, I lost the bike. My start was not so bad but, I need to go to Monza with a new rider, because the race was not so good here. Ronald ten Kate team-manager Kenan was enjoying a perfect Assen weekend until he had to go and race. We are all a little surprised and disappointed with the outcome but this is only one battle, and winning one battle doesn’t win a war. With Michele, we honestly believe that he was probably trying to make up a bit too soon for his mistake at the chicane at the end of lap two. We’ll head to Monza with a fresh approach and hope for some more realistic results there. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Lascorz Extends His Championship Lead With Second Place At Assen Front row qualifier Joan Lascorz took his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R to second place at Assen today, and in doing so extended his championship lead to eight points after four races. Joan was only 2.796 seconds down on race winner Eugene Laverty but he could have contested the win itself had he not run off the circuit trying to avoid Laverty under braking. Lascorz dropped to third at that point but worked his way back ahead of his closest championship challenger Kenan Sofuoglu on the final lap, recording his third runner-up place of the year. Seventh place qualifier Katsuaki Fujiwara was restrained in the early laps and lost touch with the leading group, getting into a fight with two other riders that held him back in eighth at the flag, after 21 intense laps of Assen. Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki rider Fabien Foret fell while fourth, having looked set to challenge for a podium place. It was his first no score of the year and it put him eighth in the championship chase. Joan Lascorz: “I was happy to finish second in the race. It was a difficult weekend, but at the end of qualifying we were on the front row, but not with such a great lap time. So I put in a soft rear tyre when everyone else seemed to use a hard tyre and it worked for me. I ran off because there was an oil flag and to make sure I did not pass the rider in front on the inside I had to brake hard, and ran wide. Then I lost a place, had to rejoin, but I got back to second. It was a pity because I think I could have had a fight with Laverty until the end. We have the lead and that is what is most important.” Katsuaki Fujiwara: “The race was not so bad but in the smaller, tighter, corners I still had some problems turning. I finished the race in the points and scored as many as possible. I made the right tyre choice, I think, the same one almost everyone else used. I took it quite steadily at the start to make sure I could finish the race after not scoring last time.” More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: Chaz Davies will leave Assen fourth in the overall standings of World Supersport after today’s race. The Brit got a good start, gaining a few positions to reach seventh place. After one lap only he managed to pass Dane Robbin Harms and got the lead of a group made up of Fujiwara, Rea and his teammate Lagrive. He build up an advantage which allowed him to finish the race fourth with his rivals far in the back. His teammate Lagrive finished behind him, while Jason Di Salvo, struck by a gastrointestinal virus settled for twelfth place. David Salom was forced to retire due to another crash, fortunately without further consequences. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 4th : “The good thing about this round is the fact that I gathered a few points for the overall standings but for the entire weekend I couldn’t find the right setup. As a consequence, I didn’t get a good feeling with the bike and so I wasn’t really at my best on this difficult track. The bike was very rigid and I had to force a bit and lost fluidity”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 5th : “I had a lot of fun today and also understood the bike’s potential. I had a long battle with Harms, Rea and Roccoli. Too bad I didn’t get a good start, I finished lap one in thirteenth place”. JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 12th : “I got very tired halfway into the race and so just focused on finishing the race. I felt very sick last night, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to get on the bike”. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | retired : “My goal for today was to get to the finish line without forcing myself too much, especially because of my physical condition after yesterday’s crash. Unfortunately, I went wide , the back tyre got off-track and I crashed”.
