PROGRESSIVE WEEKEND FOR WBR AT SUNNY ROAD ATLANTA MACEDON, NY – Heading into WBR’s Round 1 AMA event, Kyle and Travis finished strong in their classes with top-20 and top-5 finishes for them, respectably. With few laps on the bikes so far in the 2010 season, Travis was able to come away with 4th and 6th place finishes in the AMA Pro Supersport class main events against some stiff competition. “Atlanta was my first time out in the Supersport class on the Yamaha R6,” said Travis, “I felt real comfortable on the bike and I think it showed in the results. Red flags hounded both of my races this past weekend. I was happy with my times and came out with a couple good results to start off the year.” Kyle returned to Daytona Sportbike duties at Road Atlanta, putting up 17th and 18th place finishes in each race. It was his first AMA Pro event since injuries sustained in the fall and a long winter of recovery. “Overall I was happy with my results from Atlanta,” said Kyle, “in race one I had a decent start from row 6 but lost the group in front of me early on when I made a mistake at the top of the hill in the chicane. From there it was a pretty lonely race. Barrett also did double duty by finishing in the top twenty in Daytona Sportbike. The Moto Corse NCR Ducatis ran flawlessly, but the lack of traction control on the superbike, meant that Barrett had to deal with a lot of rear tire spin. More, from a press release issued by RMR: HARD CHARGING ESLICK EARNS THE PODIUM AT ROAD ATLANTA GEICO Powersports RMR Suzuki’s Danny Eslick registered his third podium finish of the 2010 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike season at Road Atlanta, edging closer to the points lead with yet another weekend in which he factored heavily at the front in both contests. The reigning Daytona SportBike champ proved again his ability to elevate his game when the races began, twice out-performing his second row, sixth-position grid slotting (1:29.688) to fight for the win in a pair of tremendous, multi-rider battles. The scrappy Oklahoman found himself right at home in the dogfight as the overtaking maneuvers came early and often. Drafting passes, courage-testing braking contests, and even the occasional contact were on the menu on Saturday and Sunday. The champ mounted on the GEICO Powersports RMR Suzuki GSX-R600 typically gave better than he got during repeated showdowns as a fleet of riders raced to the checkered flag. On Saturday, Eslick led 11 of the race’s 20-laps, picking up a bonus point for his championship efforts en route to a third-consecutive podium finish, coming home a close third at the checkered flag just 0.878 seconds off the win. Sunday’s race featured an even bigger pack of riders in contention, and the former dirt tracker picked his way up from near the tail end of the nine-rider fight to score fourth at the stripe aboard his GSX-R600, continuing his run of finishes no worse than fourth place this season. After Saturday’s third-place run, Eslick said, “I just wanted to get through Turn 1 and that little chicane at the top of the hill safely at the start — that was a little bit hairball — but after that I got settled in. There were so many passes I don’t even remember which was which. It was just good, clean racing. Every race it seems like I’m saying that was one of the most fun races ever but this was definitely awesome. It’s nice to have that competitiveness and good camaraderie with each other. “I thought I had a shot at second and I tried getting around the outside coming up the hill by the bridge on the final lap. I just had to get off the gas a little bit so I didn’t run off the track and get back in line. I just about snuck in for second and I thought I was going to get the position, but it was awesome. Good, clean racing.” The 2009 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Champion now boasts 111 points to rank second in the ’10 standings, just six points removed from the lead. Eslick will attempt to make further inroads on his repeat championship bid when the series resumes for Round 4 on May 14-16 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. J.D. Beach scored both wins and Cameron Beaubier earned a second and a third. The team backed by Top 1 Oils and Red Bull took ownership of the top two positions in the 2010 East Division championship standings. Teammates Beach and Beaubier were in top form once again with Beach stepping into the starring role at Atlanta after Beaubier had done so in Daytona with his season-opening victory. Beach picked up a $3000 bonus check for claiming the doubleheader sweep, winning Friday’s race to earn his first career AMA Pro Road Racing victory following a dramatic last-lap duel with Beaubier. J.D. then picked up his second win a day later, being awarded the victory in a twice-stopped, red-flag shortened final. The former Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup stars opened both races alongside one another on the front row aboard their YZF R6 racebikes with Beaubier qualifying second at 1:30.861, just 0.136 seconds off pole, and Beach third at 1:31.139. The two battled up front throughout Saturday’s race with Beach ultimately getting the upper hand in a breathtaking braking contest entering the Turn 10 chicane on the final lap and then holding off his teammate to the checkered flag by 0.108 seconds. On Sunday, Beaubier appeared set on getting his revenge, opening up a small gap over Beach prior to seeing it erased by a red flag. Cameron got away in third at the restart but the race was red flagged again just as he had resumed ownership of first place. When the results were reverted a lap, Beach was named the winner and Beaubier was pushed down to third. Commenting on Saturday’s landmark win, J.D. said, “I was just going for it. I knew it was going to come down to the last lap going down that back straightaway. It was a good race. It’s good to finally get a win because last year the bike was working really good and we never got a win. Cameron and I have been racing together since ’07 and he came into the team brand-new and won his first race out, and today I just went for it. I think of all the times racing with Cameron, that’s probably the first time I out-broke him too, so it was a good win.” Beach, who is now second in the championship race with 84 points, admitted of Sunday’s race, “It’s too bad we had the red flags. Cameron was riding great — you can’t tell this is his first year on a 600. But I’ll take it — when you’re down you want any advantage that you can get. It’s too bad for Cameron because he was riding really good, but that’s part of racing. I got lucky but you can’t count on it. Next time I have to figure out how to catch him faster if he starts getting away.” After increasing his championship lead by upping his tally to 94 points with his second and third-place results, Beaubier said of his close Saturday runner-up finish, “J.D. was riding really good and I was just trying to look for places he was weak and I felt a little stronger. I was waiting for a good place to pass him. I was struggling a little bit going onto the straight. We were messing around a little bit on the last lap to see who would get on the brakes last into the chicane. Once he did that, his race was pretty much won. He outbroke me and I couldn’t get enough drive to pass him back.” Rockwall Performance Yamaha will be back in action at the next round of the 2010 AMA Pro SuperSport East Division Championship, which takes place at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI on June 4-6.
