The newly formed JMW FOGI team and top UK rider Ian Lowry have joined forces to contest the Spanish CEV Buckler series in 2010, competing in the new Moto 2 Championship, running a similar format to the new World Championship Moto 2 class. Ian will compete at the first round near Barcelona on the Montmelo circuit on April 18th. The 7 round Dorna owned Spanish series takes place on 3 other World Championship venues; jerez in Cadiz, Motorland in Aragon and the Ricardo Tormo in Valencia before the finale, held in Albacete, Madrid in November. Spearheading the effort are ex MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams and Angus Borland who brought RAT Racing to two USGPRU 250GP rounds with rider Adam Roberts. The new JMW FOGI Racing team has its sights set on success in the future, aiming to build a team with future World Championship aspirations focusing on young talented riders. With Ulster born rider Ian Lowry at the controls, the team plans to contest all of the CEV rounds in Spain and possibly two GP wildcard events. The team has purchased a motorcycle from UK-based manufacturer FTR and already successfully tested with Ian in Almeria. FTR kindly provided an FTR M209 bike for testing purposes. Aiming to show that they are serious about racing and getting results, FOGI Racing has joined with ex-MotoGP star Jeremy McWilliams of the Jeremy McWilliams Superbike Academy to manage the team. Angus explains, “We aim to have a very polished presence and are looking for top 3 results consistently. The whole rationale behind our competing in the CEV is to provide a platform on which to tempt North American, British and Irish riders to look to Europe to cut their teeth and provide a conduit to MotoGP. So, this season we have a British rider on a British bike and we’re looking to get a wildcard ride in the British GP at Silverstone,” added Borland. Ian enthused- ” I am really excited about my new Moto2 campaign with JMW FOGI racing. It is a completely different venture for me, as I have racing in Britain for my whole career, there will be a steep learning curve but I am up for the challenge. I am in the best physical condition of my career so far thanks to the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland. With the opening round of the season next weekend at Catalunya, I feel very confident that we will deliver results. This whole venture couldn’t have been possible without the support from our local investors so a massive thank you to all of them. With the opportunity of doing wild card rounds of the Moto 2 class in GP, this is sure to take my career to the next level.
