Lagrive, 9 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: EUGENE LAVERTY finished fifth and Miguel Praia 12th to score hard-earned points for Parkalgar Honda in the hotly-contested third round of the World Supersport Championship at Valencia in Spain. Pole sitter Laverty is a clear third in the Championship while Praia is 14th. The fourth round of the Championship is at Assen in Holland in two-week’s time on 25th April. For more information on Parkalgar Honda visit www.parkalgarhonda.com. Miguel: “I have had better days but it was important I finish the race and I am glad I did. After three laps I thought inside the top eight was possible but the pain came and it was too much. I sprained my wrist in my qualifying crash yesterday and I lost all sensation during the race, making it very hard to use the clutch at all; which meant I lost a lot of time. The only thing for me was to finish and that’s what I did. It is a shame, on a normal day I could’ve been much higher but this weekend was difficult after my crash. We have the speed , bike and ability for the top eight for sure and I will be ready for the next race at Assen.” Eugene: “I struggled for rear grip for the entire race. I choose the same tyre that worked yesterday but it was warmer today. This tyre and setting are good for me as it gives feel and for one-lap it is great, hence our two pole positions but for racing it is not performing. I am going to have to go back to settings that are not quite as good for feel but give more grip over a race distance. We have been here before and we know what to do. I was nursing my tyre right to the end – I had so many moments both front and rear. The result is better than Portugal and we will be back at Assen stronger than ever, that I promise.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Eugene struggled for grip through the race right from the start. We know what changes he needs to make to his Parkalgar Honda in order to get the grip back and that is the direction we will go for the next round. I told Miguel at the start he needed just to finish and get some points in light of his injuries. With Assen two weeks away it will allow us to refocus our aim for Miguel to finish top 10 in the Championship.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Kenan Sofuoglu took second place in the third round World Supersport championship race at a sun-drenched Valencia in Spain this afternoon making it three podiums from three starts in the 2010 series. The race was won by local rider, Joan Lascorz, while Sofuoglu’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, fought back from a lap three crash to take five valuable points in 11th place. Starting from third place on the grid, Sofuoglu dropped a position in the early stages of the 23-lap race at the 4.005km Ricardo Tormo circuit. Choosing the harder option tyre, the Turkish rider was able to hang on to early front runner, Eugene Laverty, before slipping past him and Britain’s Chaz Davies, who finished third. Kenan Sofuoglu 2nd I saw on the grid that the Kawasaki’s, which had been fast in practice and qualifying, had the softer tyre, but I went for the harder option because we were worried about the temperature. Chaz Davies held me up a bit in the early stages of the race when I really didn’t want to let Lascorz or Laverty get away. After I had passed Laverty, I made a couple of mistakes trying to get past Davies and towards the end of the race my tyres were completely broken. I’ve been suffering from a stomach problem since Portimao which has given me some pain and stomach cramps this week, so I’m pleased with this result and want to thank the team for working so hard to get the bike so good. Michele Pirro 11th We went with the hard front tyre but Fujiwara crashed right in front of me and then I crashed as well, which I am really disappointed by. I managed to pick up the bike because there was not so much damage, but when I got back on the track I had lost a lot of time and the feeling from the front was not so good. I didn’t get a good start, it was not a good race and it has not really been a good weekend for me. We will go back to work on Wednesday in the test and look for some improvements in time for the Assen race. Ronald ten Kate team manager I think we can be happy with the result that the team has achieved with Kenan. We always knew that Lascorz would be strong here at Valencia and that’s how it has been. I feel sorry for Michele because I believe that another podium could have been possible. However, we all know that ‘could haves’ and ‘would haves’ don’t count for anything. This coming week we are testing at Assen where we’ll look for further improvements to the CBR600RR. More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: First podium of the season for team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing. Chaz Davies finished third after 23 hard-fought laps during which he had a nice duel with former world champion Kenan Sofuoglu. Teammate David Salom finished behind him, losing the opportunity to battle for the top spots because of a bump with Robbin Harms, which made him lose a few positions. Matthieu Lagrive improved his performance as he finished seventh, while Jason di Salvo had to retire after a crash. Today’s result is a historic one for Triumph as it is the first podium in World Supersport scored by a Brit. The two previous third places had been obtained by Aussie Garry McCoy. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 3rd : “It was a beautiful race. I got a very good start and got in the leading pack with Lascorz, Laverty and Sofuoglu. After a few laps, I got in second place and from that moment on I started the duel with Sofuoglu. Lascorz exploited that and build up a gap. With six laps left, I made a small mistake while I was still battling for second place. This allowed the Turkish rider to create an advantage for himself. I tried to catch him, but the tyres were almost worn out and so I wasn’t willing to take any risks. I hope this podium will be the first of many. I have to thank the entire team for doing a great job. This result wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work”. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 4th : “I really wanted to get on the podium in front of my fans. Unfortunately, I missed it by a bit mostly because of the mistake I made at the first corner. It took me a couple of laps to overtake the riders who had passed me, When I caught Laverty, I started doing my thing but I only managed to overtake him after three tries. Unfortunately, it was too late to pass Chaz as well. I proved however that I can battle for the podium and I’m sure it will come sooner or later. This result puts me fifth in the standings, just one point behind my teammate”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 7th : “The race was very useful as expected. I found a better feeling with the bike compared to practice, although that can certainly improve. However, this is just the first step, I hope to continue on this path at Assen as well”. JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | retired : “I couldn’t get a good feeling with the tyres from the start. I tried however to give it my all, but I crashed after a few laps”. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Lascorz Leads The World After Impressive Home Win Kawasaki Motocard.com rider Joan Lascorz took his first win of the year today at Valencia, and in doing so he leads the championship after three rounds. Joan has posted 2010 season results of second, second and now a win, taking him only ten points from perfection as he leads the championship by four points from today’s second placed rider, Kenan Sofuoglu. Lascorz grabbed the lead on lap six, and held it to the end, easing into to a comfortable lead by half race distance and finishing 3.193 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. team regular Katsuaki Fujiwara had qualified on the front row but while sitting in a comfortable fifth place he fell suddenly on lap three, losing the front as he entered a fast right hand corner. His bike was too badly damaged in the fall to continue and he had to retire. Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki rider Fabien Foret also fell, but he was able to remount and finish tenth. He is now sixth overall. Joan Lascorz: “I am so happy to win in Spain and take the lead in the championship. It was a hard race and when I got into the lead I just had to open the gas and make a gap on the rest of the riders little-by-little. It was enough to take the victory, our first of the year. It will be a long championship and I will try not to make any mistakes so I can keep the lead in the championship now.” Katsuaki Fujiwara: “I am not sure what happened but I lost the front in one turn. I had no warning and I did not feel I was pushing hard at all. I am sorry for the crash because we were in position for a good result, but we have many more chances this season.”
