HIGH PLAINS RACEWAY – NEWEST RACE TRACK IN COLORADO – IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS; KICKS OFF SECOND YEAR OF OPERATION WITH NEARLY EVERY WEEKEND SOLD OUT! Byers, Colorado – High Plains Raceway (HPR) is open and the first official event of the 2010 season was held at the track this past weekend. The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) ran their most successful racing school ever with over 120 participants, including students, licensed racers, and volunteers (corner workers, instructors, event coordinators, etc.). In addition to the school, SCCA racers put on quite a show with an exciting exhibition race, and street car drivers participated in the SCCA PDX (Performance Driving eXperience) and Club Time Trials programs (racing against the clock). “The weather cooperated perfectly” said Glenn Conser, HPR Track Manager and MRA racer, “and the enthusiasm in the paddock over the weekend was contagious! Throughout the event large fields of cars battled on track, creating continuous action for spectators and corner workers to enjoy.” “The crowd greatly appreciated all the new amenities added by the track management over the winter season,” said Joe Gilmore, Regional Executive for the SCCA’s Colorado Region, “and the food available from Byers General Store, the new on-site food vender, was fabulous and enjoyed by everyone!” Next up… Motorcycle Racing Association (MRA) Licensing school April 10/11; Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing (RMVR) April 17/18; Rocky Mountain Region Porsche Club (RMR-PCA) April 24/25. HPR is available for rental every day throughout the year. Street cars and motorcycles, are as welcome as race-prepared vehicles. Nearly every weekend is sold out giving spectators an opportunity to experience the excitement and variety of cars and motorcycles racing at the track all season. Visit ~http://www.highplainsraceway.com~ for event schedules, lapping days (open to everyone) and private track rental information. About High Plains Raceway (HPR) HPR is the newest road racing motorsports facility in the Rocky Mountain area. Officially opened in March of 2009, the track is 2.5 miles in length, boasts 15 turns and over 300 feet of elevation change in every lap. Its rolling terrain and elevation changes make HPR one of the most exciting race tracks in the country. The story of how HPR came about is as unique as the track itself. It’s the only facility in the country conceived, financed, designed and built by a collection of amateur road racing clubs and their members. Participating clubs are the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing (RMVR); the Colorado Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA); the Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA); the Porsche Club of America, Rocky Mtn. Region (PCA-RMR); and the Multi-Car Club Alliance (MCCA). The Multi-Car Club Alliance itself is a collective of eight other car clubs.
