Reigning WERA Regional and National 125GP champ and overall #1 plate holder for the 2010 USGPRU season, Garrett Gerloff, teams up with veteran racer Brian Stokes for the upcoming WERA National Challenge Sprint series. At only 14 years old, Gerloff decided to move up this year to the 600 Expert class to get a head start on racing the bigger bikes to help further his road racing career. With Stokes’ experience racing with WERA, CCS, and the AMA, he brings valuable knowledge to guide the youngster for what he might encounter racing a 600. “With Brian’s numerous championships with various organizations, a AMA Horizon Winner, and a 600 Suzuki Cup Champion, we felt he would make a great mentor for Garrett as he moved into the 600 class,” says Garrett’s father, Mark Gerloff. Under his tutelage as a coach, Stokes will work with Gerloff for the 8 race national series and selected regional races preparing him for the 600 Superstock and 600 Superbike class. “I’m really excited to get to work with Brian this year to improve my road racing skills. He brings a lot to table in terms of set up and experience racing a Suzuki GSXR-600,” says Garrett. The pair has been working together over the winter break with physical and mental training regimens, doing track days to get the bikes set up, lining up sponsors, and putting together all the logistical requirements it takes to go racing. “Garrett has a good head on his shoulders and listens to instruction really well. I don’t think I have ever met a kid that is more professional and focused to succeed than Garrett,” commented Stokes. “I watched him on his Moriwaki at Mid-Ohio last year during the AMA Road Race Grand Championships. I was impressed with his drive and determination that it takes to win so I approached the Gerloff’s about working with him this year,” continued Stokes. Gerloff Boys Racing is backed this year by Brian Stokes, MOTOREX Racing Oils, Scorpion EXO Helmets, DCDecals, Dunlop Tires, Leo Vince Exhaust, Sidi Boots, Stickboy Racing, T2 Tire Warmers, Ohlins Suspension, Vortex, Galfer USA Braking Systems, Turner’s Cycle, Pit Bull Products, REV’IT Apparel, and Cycle Gear.
