All five of this weekend’s pilots made the top ten in an hour-long session with Joey Pascarella taking the top spot. Joey’s best time was 1:43.350, with the next fastest rider’s time in the session at 1:44.358. “Hopefully, I can keep the gap up,” said Pascarella, who finished second last year in the season’s opening SuperSport race here. “I had a pretty wide margin and I would like nothing better than to qualify on pole and make a run for it in the early laps. I’ve been riding well in training and I was glad to be able to do the same thing out there today. Tomas Puerta was fourth quickest on Wednesday and said he feels there are gains to be made as he learns the track. The Colombian has had success here at the Daytona International Speedway (winning CCS races and finishing third in the Daytona SuperSport Shootout last fall.) “This is the first time I have ridden the tack like this and I had a little problem in two turns. I’ll try to fix it for tomorrow. Today, I rode alone and tomorrow I will see what happens in the draft,” said Puerta. His best lap was 1:45.023. Jake Gagne took fifth place (1:45.081) in the session. The Californian made gains with learning the 3.0-mile version of the Daytona International Speedway. “I’m getting used to the bike and the track but I am getting better and better. We need to make the rear end of the bike hook up a little better for qualifying but I’m still learning and the times are dropping,” said Gagne. Huntley Nash was next in the running order. The Georgian set his best time of 1:46.217 in the afternoon. “It’s not bad but there’s a lot of time to be made up. Joey’s really fast out front but it looks like I need to drop about a second to get up to second place. We need to fix some things with the setup but we’ve been working hard to improve the bike little by little. Hopefully we can make another step up and be competitive in qualifying and the races.” Sam Nash was tenth on the day. The recent Auburn University graduate is competing this weekend with LTD Racing. “This is one of my dreams, to race AMA before I go to law school,” said Sam. “To get in the top ten in practice was one of my goals. I’m stoked. Of course I want to do better and we’ll see how I can do tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to the racing.” The first 15-lap AMA Pro SuperSport race will be held tomorrow at 2 PM.
