Dunlop Motorcycle Tires will serve as the title sponsor for the three-round California State Championship series, a multi-club, multi-track shootout that will determine an Overall Champion motorcycle road racer in the state. “When Dunlop called and asked if we would be interested in doing something in conjunction with them on the 3 events, we gave them a resounding yes,” said Dennis Smith, co-owner of Sport Tire Services (STS), the Dunlop race tire vendor west of the Mississippi River. The California State Championship road racing series will consist of three rounds at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Infineon Raceway and Willow Springs International Raceway, and will feature a six-hour endurance race at the season finale at WSIR. Willow Springs Motorcycle Club (WSMC), AFM and WERA West each will host a round of the championship series, in which Expert racers over 16 will compete for an Overall Championship and class championships. WSMC and AFM officials have already announced their enthusiastic support for the series. “WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is excited to be a part of the California State Championship for 2010,” said WERA President Evelyne Clark. “Showing unity in the sport of motorcycle road racing is key right now. This is a good opportunity for all the organizers of motorcycle road racing in California to unite and get behind this effort. We look forward to hosting the round at Buttonwillow Raceway.” The first round is scheduled for the WERA West weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on May 8-9, followed by the AFM round at Infineon Raceway on July 31-Aug. 1 and the WSMC weekend of Sept. 18-19. Plans include a six-hour endurance race on Saturday, Sept. 18, with classes for Open Superbike and Superstock, Middleweight Superbike and Superstock, and Lightweight Superbike. Series sponsors include Sunoco fuels, Motion Pro, the Yamaha Champions Riding School, Factory Body Works, Leo Vince exhausts, the Dainese D-Stores in Costa Mesa and San Francisco, Driven, Galfer, Safari Cycle, Moto Forza, GPR Stabilizers, Catalyst Reaction Suspension, Hypercycle Track Days, ASV levers, Intuitive Race Products frame and knee sliders, and RK Excel chains. Additionally, Sunoco, Dunlop, Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli and Continental are offering bonus contingency at the end of the series for top finishers on their brands.
