Qualifying for Round one of the Australian Superbike Championship was held today at Phillip Island in conjunction with the 2010 World Superbike Championship. Under a grey sky, the dry track saw a battle for pole position emerge between Ducati Motologic Racing’s Jamie Stauffer, GAS Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell and Suzuki’s Josh Waters. With lap times extremely close between the three riders throughout the session, the official grid placement for tomorrow’s Australian Superbike races sees Ducati Motologic Racing’s Stauffer 3rd on the grid with a 1:34.357 sec behind Waters in 2nd with Maxwell taking pole position with a 1:34.120 sec. However, lap times amongst the three were very close. The other half of the Ducati Motologic Race Team, Jordan Burgess qualified 10th on the grid; very impressive for his first factory outing at an event. Motologic Owner and Race Team Manager Paul Free: “Qualifying today has given the team added motivation for the weekend with Jamie qualifying on provisional pole after qualifying 1 and subsequently finishing the day in 3rd position on the grid on his Ducati 1198R. The lap times are so close it will be very interesting to see what occurs in racing tomorrow. Jordan has also done extremely well to be placed in the top 10 with all the riders in front of him carrying many seasons of race experience. For his first event with a factory team on a Superbike his efforts are impressive. We are looking forward to putting the Ducati 1198R on the track tomorrow and learning more about the bike’s capabilities under race conditions.”
