An online auction has raised more than $10,000 toward the care and rehabilitation of WERA racer Zac Chapman, organizers said. Chapman, an up-and-coming young racer and team rider for TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha, was critically injured in a sprint race at the WERA Cycle Jam at Virginia International Raceway on August 8th, 2009. While Chapman tried to decline treatment immediately after the accident, his condition deteriorated. Chapman was airlifted to a clinic in Roanoke, Virginia, and spent time in and out of consciousness. Since then, he has been in a hospital and in a long-term care facility in Forth Worth, Texas, near his home. Chapman’s vision is improving and he is showing signs of progress in his physical recovery. “We were able to raise over $10,000, which totally exceeded my expectations when I started this. Fred Chapman (Zac’s father) is extremely grateful,” says Audrey Menarik of Moto Liberty, who helped organize the online auction.
