Aaron Yates and Josh Herrin were the quickest riders in their respective classes as a two-day, multi-team test ended Wednesday at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, California. Herrin’s 1:27.35 on his Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6 was not only quicker than his best lap (1:28.248) during the 2009 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike race at Auto Club Speedway it was also better than the best Daytona SportBike lap of that weekend, doubleheader winner Danny Eslick’s 1:27.832. Yates lost a lot of time on the first day of the test while his crew exercised electrical demons from his Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki GSX-R1000, but the Georgian charged hard on the second day and came away with a 1:23.77 to lead the American Superbike category. Only one rider went faster than that during the 2009 race at Auto Club Speedway, and that rider was 2009 Champion Mat Mladin, who turned a 1:23.749 en route to winning both races that weekend. Ambient and track temperatures were higher Wednesday than Tuesday, reducing the amount of grip available from the racing surface, according to many riders.
