(November 24, 2009) – The Championship Cup Series (CCS) and New Jersey Motorsports Park today announced plans for the 2010 debut of the New Jersey Road Race Series, a four-race regional motorcycle series. Race weekends will take place on both of New Jersey Motorsports Park’s permanent road courses, the 12-turn, 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway and the 11-turn, 1.9-mile Lightning Raceway. The New Jersey Road Race Series will operate under CCS racing rules, which touts a class for nearly every sport bike. The regional series will crown a champion, but all New Jersey Road Race Series events will count towards CCS Mid-Atlantic and Atlantic region points. “This region has demonstrated its enthusiasm for motorcycle racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park,” said Kevin Wittman, New Jersey Motorsports Park General Manager. “In partnering with CCS, we understand that not everyone can travel the country racing. By participating in the New Jersey Road Race Series, we’re offering racers two very distinct circuits without leaving our facility and their home region.” CCS hosted a very successful National event on New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Lightning circuit last July. That event, a tremendous season-ending AMA Pro Superbike race, and a large contingent of motorcycle track day rentals helped set the stage for the creation of the New Jersey Road Race Series. “The staff and management of New Jersey Motorsports Park have already shown a tremendous commitment to the motorcycling community,” said Kevin Elliott, CCS Director of Operations. “The unique combination of racing on both tracks gives the racers the variety they all crave and it will make this one of the toughest championships to win. This new series is a natural progression in the growth of this premier facility and we are proud that New Jersey Motorsports Park has chosen CCS to be its sanctioning body for the New Jersey Road Race Series.” The New Jersey Road Race Series is modeled after similar programs at other road racing facilities. Like all CCS programs, the series is designed to be attractive for new riders, as well as experienced or professional racers.
