Californian Kenny Noyes (Palmeto Kawasaki) maintained his perfect record by qualifying once again for the front row as he has done now in all six round of the Spanish 1000cc Extreme Championship, but once again the pole went to Ivan Silva (Inmotec Kawasaki) by 0.186. Noyes will start third on the grid alongside Silva and championship leader Carmelo Morales (Laglisse Yamaha). Morales´ team mate Javier del Amor completes the front row in this next-to-last round of the last major European roadracing championship that is still running. Only Morales and Noyes have started all six rounds off the front row, but neither has a pole. Silva has taken five poles, but missed the front row in round three at Valencia. Morales holds a commanding 29 point lead over Bernat Martinez and can renew the title he won last year with a win, but Silva, who won at Jerez earlier this season and Noyes who won the final round at Jerez last year are both to be reckoned with on Sunday. Noyes has a mathematical chance to overtake Morales, but a realistic shot at taking second in the series. He is currently fourth but only 12 points back of Martinez and 8 points behind Silva. For Noyes, an American ex-dirt track rider who never roadraced until he moved back to Spain after winning the Formula USA Pro Singles Flat Track Championship in 2000, this will his penultimate Spanish national before trading his 1000cc Kawasaki for a 600cc Promo Harris entered by Antonio Banderas Racing in the inaugural 2010 World Moto2 Championship. Kenny Noyes #35 (Third Qualifier) 1´42.324 (+0.186) “That pole just keeps getting away from us but we´ve been on the front row for every race. We had some problems yesterday and had to spend the morning session catching up. The team worked real well although we still have a bit of work to do withy the front in the warm up. When we put on the qualifying tire there was suddenly just enough increase in chatter to make me back off a bit. Traction makes chatter, and that is why the bike works better on the race tire.” “Anyway we’re right there on race pace and third on the grid so we’re feeling good about our chances. Whenever I’ve started off the right side of the grid here I’ve gotten away good”¦starting third or fourth you have the inside line on the brakes going into one. We have two good things going here. First, we seem to have solved our starting problem by ditching the launch control and going back to the old way. Second, our pace is good on the race tire even when it has got a lot of laps on it. So we’re feeling good about tomorrow.”
