Kenny Noyes has put his Kawasaki on the front row for every race this season and will once again start up front at Circuit de Catalunya, second, on the 33-rider 1000cc Extreme grid. For the Spanish-born American who lives in Barcelona, this is his home race and one that he would love to win. In the morning session he was quickest on race tires but did not get a clean run on his qualifier and missed the pole, which was taken by Ivan Silva (1:45.190) who, like Kenny, rides a Kawasaki ZX-10R on Michelin tires. Conditions were warmer in the afternoon and, although Kenny again had the second quickest time, less than a tenth of a second off Bernat Martinez (Yamaha), he was also able to identify a problem in the first split and to make a long run on his race tire in conditions that were warmer that the weather expected at race time on Sunday. During recent tests at Barcelona and throughout both qualifying sessions the team has worked to get the Kawasaki to perform well on worn tires. Only Kenny, Silva and reigning Spanish 1000cc Champion, Carmelo Morales (Yamaha R1) have been able to get into the 45s and Kenny believes these three will most likely fight for the win on Sunday. Both the 125cc race and the 16 lap Extreme race will be shown on Spain’s TVE in Sunday primetime. We have a good pace, although I think Morales and Silva do too, so this race should be fun and it’s hard to know how it will play out. I´ll try to get a good start and clear off, but my guess is that the three of us will be together–and maybe the group will be even larger. “I know I have a tire that will work till the end. This is a track that is good for the Kawasaki, for Michelin and for me because it is a place where getting off the corners hard lets you use all the potential of this bike and the tires.
