Support the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame at the 5th Annual Leather and Ice online auction PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce that the 5th Annual Leather and Ice online auction, the proceeds of which support the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, will go live on Oct. 18. The auction will include memorabilia autographed by noted AMA Hall of Famers, such as Bill Werner and Arlen Ness, as well as one-of-a-kind works of art. In all, there are more than 150 memorable gifts and something for every budget. Hosted at MotorcycleMuseum.cmarket.com, the auction will be active through Nov. 15. “The annual Leather and Ice online auction has become a favorite way for enthusiasts to support the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, and this year will be one of our best years yet,” said AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Operations Manager Katy Wood. One distinctive item on the block this year is a scholarship to the PowerSports Institute (PSI). The winner of this item can use it for themselves, or as a gift it to a friend or family member. In 2008, the scholarship went to Ken Mancini from Batavia, N.Y. “Last year was our first time participating in the auction, and it was a great success,” said Jordan Brenner, admissions and marketing manager for the Ohio Technical College (OTC) and the PSI. “We’re pleased to support the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame by donating another scholarship this year and helping to train the next generation of motorsports professionals. “With the economy on the downside and the nation facing its struggles, this is a chance for PSI to really benefit an individual interested in beginning a prosperous career and by saving on the cost of a full tuition,” Brenner added. Mancini, who was the school’s Student of the Month for July 2009, added that for him winning the scholarship was “fantastic.” “And it’s getting better every day,” Mancini said. “This is something I wanted to do for a long time. I’ve always tinkered with cars and motorcycles, and I wanted to learn how to do it the right way. The excitement, the intensity, I saw here really makes it a great opportunity. When you’re looking at the scholarship in the online auction, you’re really looking at a bargain.” Other items sure to catch the eye of moto-enthusiasts are authentic gear, including motorcycle boots and leather jackets, collectibles and more. The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum is accepting donations for the 2009 Leather and Ice online auction through Nov. 10. Those interested in donating may contact Toni Shoap at (614) 856-2222, ext. 1340, or [email protected].
