Frank Cheek, founder of the nation’s first motorcycle-only campground and resort, died Sept. 30 at his home in Suches, Georgia. He was 81. Cheek started Two Wheels Only, nestled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia, back in 1982, when touring motorcyclists often found “No Motorcycles Allowed” signs at the gates of campgrounds. “Until he came and put it (Two Wheels Only) up, people were afraid of motorcycles. People didn’t know how to take it,” says Charles Long, funeral director of the Mountain View Funeral Home in Blairsville, GA, and a longtime acquaintance of Cheek. “Frank came and showed everyone that these people were just everyday people. He became part of this community. Good people.” Cheek is survived by his wife Jeannie Cheek of Suches, GA; Sister Margaret Wasson of Greenville, SC; Son David Cheek of Roanoke, VA; Daughters Susan Brown of Gainesville, GA; and Janet Roll of Las Vegas, NV. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at High Valley Resort in Suches, GA.. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donation be made to Church Without Walls or CROP Walk.
