1993 WORLD CHAMPION SCHWANTZ TO APPEAR AT MICHELIN U.S. MOTORCYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 30, 2009) Kevin Schwantz, the 1993 500cc Grand Prix world champion who is one of motorcycle racing’s living legends, will be on hand at the Michelin U.S. Motorcycle Championship, set for Oct. 3-4 at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Ala. Schwantz, whose heart-stopping riding style and charismatic personality won him legions of loyal fans worldwide, will help present trophies to the race winners on Sun., Oct. 4. During his stellar career, Schwantz amassed 25 Grand Prix wins, 21 lap records, 29 pole positions and the 1993 World Championship. He was the first rider in the history of the Grand Prix racing to have his competition number retired. The first-ever Michelin U.S. Motorcycle Championship is an exclusive, invitation-only event offering an $87,500 purse for club-level motorcycle road racers who compete on MICHELIN® racing tires.
