Yamaha Austria Racing Team wins the 2009 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship The YART, Yamaha Austria Racing Team, won last Sunday their first Qtel FIM Endurance World title. The Austrian team provided a great show during the classic ‘Bol d’Or’ event, held last weekend in Magny Cours, despite having faced a number of serious technical problems towards the end of the race. However, the YART riders managed to clinch the 2009 world title, with still one round to go. The last event of the 2009 Qtel FIM Endurance Championship, the 8 Hours of Doha, will be held on 14 November, in Qatar. During the 2009 season, Yamaha Austria Racing Team, equipped with Michelin tyres, have shown constancy race after race, winning at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 8 Hours of Oschersleben and the 8 Hours of Albacete. The team, with riders Igor Jerman, Steve Martin and Gwen Giabbani also took a fourth place at the 8 Hours of Suzuka, beside some of the most competitive Japanese teams also racing for top honours. Created in 2001 by Mandy Kainz, YART takes its first World title in 2009, having been Vice World Champions in 2006 and 2008, and with a score of five race victories in World Endurance. This is the second successive FIM Endurance World Cup for this young team based in Losail, Qatar, and supported by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Qtel. Last year, the Qatar Endurance Racing Team enjoyed the valuable technical support of the Junior Team Suzuki but this year, they were able to hold their title successfully on their own. The three Qatari riders, Mashel Al Naimi, Rashid Al Mannai and Sultan Al Naimi, and French rider Anthony Delhalle, are behind this new success. The QERT will be the favourite again on 14 November 2009, the next and last round of the 8 Hours of Doha, which will be held on their home track in Losail, Qatar.
