After leading Friday’s wet, first MotoGP practice session, Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa showed he was even stronger in dry conditions by setting a new Circuit Best lap record during Saturday morning practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In cool and overcast conditions, Pedrosa ripped around the 2.6-mile, 16-turn infield road course in 1:40.271, undercutting the old record of 1:40.776 set by Valentino Rossi during last year’s inaugural event. It’s important to note that Rossi’s time was set using soft qualifying tires, and Pedrosa used race-compound tires Saturday morning. Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo was second-best in the session, but his time of 1:41.286 was over one second slower than Pedrosa. Alex De Angelis was third in the practice on his San Carlo Gresini Honda RC212V with a 1:41.324, while Rossi was fourth at 1:41.389. Americans Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden were also on the pace Saturday morning. Edwards was one of the fastest riders in the first two segments of the track and ended up fifth with a 1:41.459 on his Monster Tech 3 Yamaha, while Hayden continued to make progress on his Marlboro Ducati, posting the seventh-quickest time, a 1:41.883.
