Carolina Motorsports Park Breaks Ground on Kart Track Kershaw, SC — Keeping true to their promise of extensive track expansions and renovations, Carolina Motorsports Park has unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art kart track. The multi- directional track will be 26 ft. wide and have countless configurations including 16 turns and a 760-foot straightaway on a 26 ft. wide polymer enhanced surface. Along with being one of a mere handful in the southeast, and the only one in South Carolina, the track will also be sanctioned by the World Karting Association. Kart racing is the perfect compliment to the facility’s existing 2.3 mile, 14-turn road course for the reason that almost every successful pro driver in the world today got their start in karting, where the dynamics of driving are amplified and in turn, better understood. According to track manager, Jochen Tartak, “karting is the easiest and most affordable way to get started in motorsports and we are thrilled to put a national caliber track in your backyard. We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the indescribable stimulation we offer here at CMP and feel that the kart track is just one more way we can do that.” Paving is underway and the track is expected to open to the public September 1, 2009. No one is precluded from enjoying the track. Available to the public will be: children’s karting (ages 6 and up), corporate events, concession karts for beginners, group functions, and local and national racing series.
