Assen. 26th of June 2009. The circuit of Assen, also known as “the cathedral”, has been the place where the new category Moto2, which will be sharing the track with the 250cc bikes in 2010, has made its world premiere. A few days ago, Dorna, the company which organizes the GP World Championship, contacted the team Blusens BQR so that we took our Moto2 prototype to the Alice TT Assen in order to let some ex riders try it out. This event has finally happened in between the second Free Practice of the 250cc and the official one of the 125cc. The first former rider in trying the Moto2 has been the mythical Alex Crivillé, the only Spaniard in ever winning the 500cc category of the World Championship. The twice champion (In 1989 for 125cc and in 1999 for 500cc) has taken two laps of the Dutch circuit with the BQR Honda-Moto2 and, after getting off of it, he looked very optimistic about the possibilities and potential of this new 600cc motorbike, which will be the protagonist of the MotoGP World Championship starting next year. Also Jurgen Van Den Gorbergh, Dutch rider of both 250 and 500cc in the 1990’s; Steve Parrish, mate of Barry Sheene in the World Championship, and Dirk Heidolf, who was an active rider of 250cc until two years ago and who is nowadays director of a team with a rider in 125cc and a rider in 250cc, could try out the BQR Honda-Moto2 today. Even the Italian TV reporter Max Temporali has been able to ride two laps on the Blusens BQR prototype. All of them have agreed in that the motorbike is a real Racing machine, which feels closer to the prototypes of 250cc than to the Supersport. It is very easy to handle and fast in the bends. The engine is powerful and it breaks really well, but the four ex riders wanted to emphasise the fact that it is very manageable; they all were positive that the Moto2 has very good perspectives. Van Den Gorbergh has said: “we really are facing a racing motorcycle. Before I have ridden it I had doubts about to what extent was not it a bike for the everyday use instead of a racing one, but obviously this is without question a racing motorbike”. Parrish has expressed how he felt after the experience by saying: “the most outstanding characteristic of the Moto2 compared to the 4 strokes motorbikes is that it is really light and easy to use”. On the other hand, Heidolf has said that he “got off the Moto2 feeling moved; the motorcycle is something half way between a prototype and a standard, but clearly closer to the first one”. Moreover, they have pointed out that even though they have taken just a couple of laps in this circuit, with the right tuning and pneumatics specially created for the motorbike it is sure that the Moto2 will soon be faster than the current 250cc. ALEX CRIVILLÉ: “I am really happy with the opportunity that Dorna and the team Blusens BQR have given to me, because riding and trying new motorbikes is something I love. I have done two laps, the first one for cleaning the pneumatic and a second one in order to attain the real potential of this 600cc that will start competing in the world championship next year. The BQR Honda-Moto2 is a motorbike that reacts a little like the 250cc even though it is a little heavier. It is an agile bike which with a good tuning will have excellent performance features and will go faster than the 250. There are still some aspects to define, but I think this motorbike has a brilliant future. It is really fast in the bends.”
