Fresh from their success in the British Superbike series yesterday, Leon Camier and James Ellison head to Donington Park this weekend as Wild Card entries for the British round of the World Superbike Championship. Having recorded 9 wins out of a possible 10 in the domestic series, confidence is currently high in the Airwaves Yamaha squad. GSE Racing, the team behind the Airwaves Yamaha name, scored victories as Wild Cards at both Donington Park and Brands Hatch in 2000. For their Wild Card assault this year, the four times British Superbike Champions will be aiming to take advantage of data gathered from their double victory at the Derbyshire circuit just one month ago. Following a sensational double win at Snetterton yesterday, Leon is keen to get straight back on the YZF-R1 saying, “The Airwaves Yamaha is working so well. With my engineer Frankie I’ve found a set-up which gives me the confidence to overtake pretty much anywhere. We saw Sunday that we struggle slightly on top speed so hopefully we’ll be able to find something a bit extra. I’m excited to see how we do against the World Superbike teams and riders, I’m sure it won’t be an easy weekend. It’s important to treat these races like any other but of course I would love to come away with two good results. It’s the reason we’re going there!” James finished 4th as a Wild Card in 2008. On the challenge ahead he said, “Last week I actually forgot about going to Snetterton because I was looking forward to Donington Park so much. I scored my first ever BSB win there and it’d be awesome to add some strong World Superbike results to my record. We’re going to be competing against the best in the world and the racing should be really close. The Airwaves Yamaha team potentially has a big advantage in having raced at Donington Park in May. We’ll be there flying the flag for Britain and for the British Superbike Championship.” The British round of the World Superbike Championship will take place at Donington Park on the 26th, 27th and 28th June.
