American Blake Young will race for Team Alstare Suzuki Brux team in this weekend’s Superbike World Championship race at Donington Park. “That is my full expectation, based on everyone I spoke with today,” said Steve Dicterow, who is part of Young’s management team at International Racers. “The team has asked him to do it. American Suzuki has given their approval. And we’re making sure all the insurance and everything is in place for him.” Young, 21, did not travel to Europe looking for a new ride. He is currently in the middle of a deal with American Suzuki to race with the Rockstar Makita Suzuki squad in AMA Pro American Superbike. He simply accompanied mentor and friend Kevin Schwantz on a trip to see the MotoGP race at Catalunya and the World Superbike race at Misano. “Blake and Kevin Schwantz were over at the World Superbike race this weekend at Misano,” continued Dicterow. “I don’t know all the details, but somehow along the weekend it became clear one of the riders, [Fonsi] Nieto, I think it is, would not be riding this coming weekend. And the team approached Blake and asked if he would be willing to be a wild card for the race. We just think it’s a great opportunity for a young rider to do this. “Certainly, Blake has expressed in the past that he would be interested in pursuing an international racing career at some point, but I can tell you to an absolute certainty that we had no idea [this would happen]. The first time I got wind of this, and I’m his manager, was Saturday. So it wasn’t like we went over there with the hope, expectation or any thought to get him in there. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.” Fonsi Nieto, the rider Young is expected to replace at Donington Park, was riding as a substitute for Max Neukirchner, who was seriously injured at Monza. Neukirchner is expected to return to action July 24-26 at Brno, the next round after Donington Park.
