Miller Motorsports Park Round kicks off with official welcome at State Capitol The Miller Motorsports Park World Superbike weekend kicked off today with a series of media and promotional activities in downtown Salt Lake City. Eight riders from the Superbike World Championship (Ben Spies, Noriyuki Haga, Max Biaggi, Yukio Kagayama, Carlos Checa, Jamie Hacking, Troy Corser and Jake Zemke) and their race bikes appeared at a press conference at the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City late in the afternoon for an official welcome from Lt. Governor Gary Herbert, Larry H. Miller Group CEO Greg Miller and HANNspree Superbike World Championship General Manager Paolo Ciabatti. Following the press conference, the racers mounted their race bikes to lead a parade of motorcycles from the State Capitol to the EnergySolutions Arena, the venue for the SBK Bike Bash. Later the Arena was transformed into a motorcycle festival with a variety of entertainment taking place, including an exhibition by top freestyle motocross and BMX stars, a skateboarding demonstration, and exhibitions by BMW stunt rider Chris Pfeiffer and trials riding expert Geoff Aaron. Many of the top racers from the World Superbike and World Supersport championships were on hand to participate in an autograph session for the fans. The evening’s attraction saw top rock band Hoobastank take the stage inside the Arena. The members of the band are huge motorcycle racing fans, and actually contacted Miller Motorsports Park to inquire about getting involved with this year’s event. The HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship Utah USA Round gets underway Friday, May 29. Support series will include the Supersport World Championship race. Friday will include practice sessions, with additional practice, qualifying and Superpole on Saturday. Races for the Superbike World Championship (12.00 and 15.30) and Supersport World Championship are scheduled for Sunday. About Miller Motorsports Park Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City is considered to be one of the finest circuits in North America. Opened in 2006, it is hosting the Hannspree FIM Superbike World Championship for the second time. The track has four different configurations, including the East and West Courses and the 3.08-mile Outer Course, which will be used for World Superbike. The 3500-foot main straightaway allows the fastest cars and motorcycles to approach 200 mph (320 km/h) before braking for Turn 1. The Outer Course is one of the fastest track layouts in North America. While the track is basically flat, the design incorporates several elevation changes in order to add character, challenge and unparalleled sightlines for spectators.
