The Stiggy Racing Honda squad crossed the Atlantic Ocean for another overseas round in the Superbike World Championship. This time hosted in the United States, as the seventh round of the series will be take place at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City this weekend. The stunning 4.907km long track on the salty flats of Utah will see the World’s fastest Superbikes in action for the second consecutive year, having been added to the series’ program last season. Nevertheless it remains a new track on the agenda for the World Supersport riders. Anthony West rekindled his form in South Africa last week, where he took eighth place at the flag in the Supersport race, but is eager to move further and return to rostrum glory. West, one of the more experienced and talented riders in the Supersport field, faced a tough series of races dominated by bad luck and an uncompetitive machine, but has worked hard, together with teammate Gianluca Vizziello and their respective crews, to shrug off the issues and get their bikes ready for a fresh charge at the Supersport podium at Miller. Though Stiggy Racing squad’s American Superbike rider John Hopkins is recuperating ahead of schedule from the injuries sustained in his horrific Assen crash, but has not been declared fit to race his Superbike in front of his home audience yet. His fellow countryman and current AMA Formula Extreme Champion Jake Zemke, who made his first appearance as a replacement rider for the team in Monza three weeks ago, will substitute for Hopkins. Leon Haslam heads to the American round with yet another top results added to his tally from South Africa, having taken fourth place in the second race. Haslam, currently fourth in the championship rankings, is eager to further cash in on his growing momentum on the Stiggy Racing squad’s Superbike and claim another top spot on the American rostrum this weekend. Leon Haslam, WSBK: ” The Miller track will be a new one to us, but I am confident we can get the bikes ready quickly enough without having to play catch-up with the other teams that much. We have been successfully developing the bike and getting ideas on how to improve it in every round so far, so it will be interesting to see what we can do at the Miller track. It should suit the Honda, as [Carlos] Checa has shown last year. It will be a challenge as I have not ridden the circuit yet, but I’m looking forward to that challenge and hopefully we will be pushing for the podium again. Jake Zemke, WSBK: “I am definitely excited to be back on the Stiggy Racing Honda at Miller Motorsports Park. I was really disappointed with our results at Monza. I know that the rest of the team and I myself are capable of much more than what we showed there. Now, with a better understanding of the team and also with the Pirelli tires, we will be looking at fighting for a spot inside the top 10.” Anthony West, WSS: ” I am really looking forward to racing in the US this weekend. I really like the country, and it should set a good atmosphere for the weekend. We have had a tough couple of rounds, but I am convinced we can put them behind us and fight the competition for a top position this weekend. It frustrates me that I haven’t been able to cash in on the hard work we have done as much as I would have like to. I should be fighting at the top of the field and I hope I will be able to do so this weekend.” Gialuca Vizziello, WSS: ” I am looking forward to the next race in America. It is a completely new track for me, but then again, it will be for all the Supersport riders, so no one has much of an advantage. I have had a disappointing race in South Africa, but hope to improve my performance in America.” Johan Stigefelt, Team Manager: ” Miller will be interesting for us, as it is another new track for all our bikes and our riders [except for Jake]. It will be interesting to see how competitive our bikes can be at the Miller track. I am sorry that John will not be able to ride for us this weekend, but its is important for him to make a full recovery before competing again, and I am sure Jake will do his best to be a good replacement. With the bikes having been crated for most of the last couple of weeks, all development will have to be done on track in the days leading to race day, but I am anticipating good results on both sides of the garage this weekend.” Superbike Championship Standings after 6 rounds: 1. Noriyuki Haga, 250 points 2. Michel Fabrizio, 165 points 3. Ben Spies, 162 points 4. Leon Haslam, 116 points 20. John Hopkins, 9 points Supersport Championship Standings after 6 rounds: 1. Cal Crutchlow, 119 points 2. Eugene Laverty, 116 points 3. Kenan Sofuoglu, 83 points 4. Andrew Pitt, 64 points 5. Anthony West / Joan Lascorz, 60 points 17. Gianluca Vizziello, 9 points
