AFM Round 3 at Infineon Raceway After a close second place finish to Chris Siglin in April, Cory Call bounced back with one of his best weekends to date May 24 at Infineon Raceway, taking the win on his Dunlop-shod MDK Motorsports Suzuki in the Kal Gard Formula Pacific race. James Randolph finished second on his Pirelli-shod Suzuki, with David Stanton making his way past Siglin late in the race to finish third on his Dunlop-shod Mach 1 Yamaha. “I knew James was coming for me, and I was just waiting for him to bomb me into Turn 7,” said Call, who also took first place finishes in Open Production, Open Superbike, and Open Grand Prix. “I might have pinched him off going into Turn 7 once when he picked a different line coming in there – he’s done that before ‘cuz he’s sneaky!” Despite the second place finish, Randolph seemed optimistic after challenging Call for a good portion of the race. “There were a couple of times where I thought I might be able to make a pass, and I scared myself real good,” said Randolph, who also finished second in the Open Superbike race. After a disappointing 6th place Formula Pacific finish in April, David Stanton sounded elated to be back on the box with his third place finish. “I set sail after Lenny about halfway through, and I could still see the leaders – which is something I haven’t been able to do lately,” said Stanton. “It came down to the last lap with Chris, and I was able to get by him just barely and hang on for third. I’ve never been so excited for third in all my life!” Cory Call wasn’t the only four-race winner on the weekend, as Lenny Hale also came out on top in his four races, taking first place finishes in 600 Production, 600 Superbike, 750 Production, and 750 Superbike on his Pirelli-shod R6. Hale’s greatest challenge came in 750 Superbike, trailing Matt Green and his Strongmail / Desmoto Sport Ducati 749 on the last lap as they headed into traffic. While braking for Turn 9, Green lost the front to avoid running into a lapped rider, allowing Hale to finish the race unchallenged for the win. Peter O’Sullivan finished 2nd, with former AFM #6 Andy Carman finishing 3rd. “I saw those riders up ahead, and I was looking forward to it,” said Hale. “I actually like lapped traffic!” The next round of the 2009 AFM Championship is scheduled to take place on June 13-14 at Thunderhill AFM Round 3 Infineon Raceway May 23-24 Unofficial Top 6 per Class Kal Gard Formula Pacific 1. Richard Appel (Kaw) More, from a press release issued by Zöe Rem: The Ladies Are at it Again The second round of the AFM ladies class, Formula AFemme, went off again this month with an awesome turnout. Thanks to the AFM Board of Directors for giving the girls the chance to battle each other for two exhibition rounds. We’re all hopeful it will continue for the rest of the season. Even though all of the women are riding bikes ranging from Ninja 250s and 125 two strokes to 600 inline fours and bigger, the racing was still head to head, with the win determined by a tenth of a second! Probably the closest finish at AFM all weekend long. Although it was sad to see Christie down in turn seven, it was great to see new faces on the grid. With ladies coming out of the woodwork, Formula AFemme is proving a very enticing race. Denise Howard attests: “I hadn’t raced in 3 ½ years and was talking one of the participants last month and it sounded like she had such a good time that I decided to come back just for this race!” We’d like to thank all of the companies helping us out: Bridgestone Tires Michelin Tires Pacific Track Time Trackdays Keigwins @ the Track Trackdays Viets-Performance.com Race Ready Motorsports Ponyrific.com A-Co.
