Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Blake Young has decided to not ride in the AMA Pro American Superbike races this weekend at Infineon Raceway in order to give his injured finger more time to heal. Young crashed in a race at Barber Motorsports Park less than two weeks ago and suffered injuries that led to the amputation of a portion of his left pinkie finger. Upon arriving in San Francisco Thursday, Young went to have noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Arthur Ting examine his finger, and that’s when the 21-year-old star became fully aware of his situation. “He unbandaged it and said the wound looks good and it’s healing right,” Young told Roadracingworld.com Friday morning inside his team’s transporter at Infineon Raceway. “We put a new bandage on it and got it into a glove, but it was putting a lot of stress on the stitches.” Young said Dr. Ting advised him on the risks associated with the stitches failing and the wound re-opening, specifically the risk of infection, and Young then made his decision. “It’s just too soon,” said Young. “I don’t want to make it worse. I’d rather come back at Road America [Young’s home track] and be at 90% than rush it here and have something go wrong.” Young said he planned to return home to Wisconsin as soon as possible and have a local doctor remove his stitches on Monday.
