Scotty Van Hawk, rider and Team Owner with the 4FR Toyota Trucks/Greeneracres.org AMA race team, is having surgery today to repair damage in his right knee that he suffered in a crash during the season-opener March 4-6 at Daytona International Speedway. Van Hawk has hired other riders — including Steve Rapp, Mark Crozier and Shane Narbonne — to race his bikes in the Daytona Sportbike and American Superbike classes while he recovered. Van Hawk tried to return to action at the Barber Motorsports Park AMA round May 1-3, but according to a press release, he quickly realized that his knee was not healed. After consulting with well-known orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Bryan (who was attending the AMA races at Barber Motorsports Park as a spectator), Van Hawk opted to have surgery at the hands of Dr. Bryan to repair a torn meniscus in his knee today in Pomona, California.
