(Tooele, UT) Seasoned racer Shane Turpin roared to wins in six classes during Round 2 of the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains at Miller Motorsports Park. Riding fast and more consistently than he has in years, Turpin jumped out to a commanding lead in the King of the Mountain GTO class over Canadian champ Mike Zottmann. Winning the premier KoM GTU and GTO classes during the rain-plagued weekend, Turpin also swept Twins GTU, SuperTwins, Open Superbike and Formula 40. Expect Shane to be the man to beat on his home course for the Larry H. Miller Superbike Challenge May 29-31 during WSBK weekend.

Competition in the middleweight classes was fierce with Oleg Pianykh, Dave Lewis and Cory Cowan setting the pace and dropping lap times into the low 1:33s on Miller’s West Course. Trading wins throughout the weekend, Pianykh won Middleweight Superbike, Lewis won Middleweight Superstock and Cowan won Heavyweight Superstock.

Look for more action for Round 3 on June 20-21.

Canadian young gun Royce McLean quickly got up to pace on his new Yamaha R6. Fourteen-year-old McLean, a top-ranked USGPRU racer in 2008, improved his lap times dramatically over the weekend and gave chase to USBA veterans Lewis, Pianykh and Cowan. McLean placed second in middleweight superstock and KoM GTU, and forth in middleweight superbike.

The seven-race Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains series, developed by Miller Motorsports Park, organized by the Utah Sportbike Association (USBA) and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), was created to encourage and develop fun and competitive road racing at the club and regional levels. In its forth year, the series has quickly turned into a premier event drawing top-level talent from around the nation.
