Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Mat Mladin won his seventh AMA Pro American Superbike race of the season Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park. The start of the race was delayed due to severe weather in the Birmingham, Alabama area, but the race was run on a mostly dry track with some significant wet patches. The race was further complicated when Josh Hayes and Blake Young tangled while fighting for second place, causing Young to crash and need medical attention for what appeared to be a hand injury. A full-course caution was called so the ambulance attending to Young’s injuries could go from its post outside of Turn Five back to the paddock via the racetrack. Mladin, leading at the time of the caution, controlled the race to the finish, but Jordan Suzuki’s Aaron Yates gave him a good run for his money, finishing only 2.741 seconds back at the end of the eight-lap restart. Update: Young was transported to a local hospital for treatment to injuries to fingers on his left hand, according to Rockstar Makita Suzuki Team Manager Don Sakakura.
